Beijing Agricultural College physical education teacher Lu Hejiang is a protective pad inspector in the operation team of the Capital Gymnasium stadium group, in order to minimize the damage caused to the body by athletes in a collision, the short track speed skating field needs to be placed around the protective pad, and Lu Hejiang's job is to check and reset the protective pad during the competition to protect the safety of the athletes.
"It sounds simple, but it's actually full of doorways." Lu Hejiang said that taking the safety buckle as an example, the pull belt outside the protective pad should be placed in the right position, and the elasticity of the buckle should be moderate. If the pull strap is too tight, the bounce force after the athlete hits the mat will become larger, and it is easy to bounce back into the field, causing injury; if the pull strap is loose, the protective pad may hit the outfield facilities and the staff on the sideline. "Therefore, according to the distance of the venue facilities and protective mats, we should adjust the tightness of the pull belt to the best to ensure the safety of the athletes after hitting the mats to the greatest extent."
The timing of the protective pad reset is also important, neither early nor too late. "After the athletes get up and leave the protective mat, they must immediately reset according to the position line drawn before the game, and when resetting, they must always observe the situation on the ice surface to prevent accidents." He added.
Safety cannot afford to be sloppy. Lu Hejiang works more than 10 hours a day, and in the evening, he also summarizes the work content of the day with colleagues, analyzes the team of athletes who will train or compete the next day, and arranges the work priorities in a targeted manner. "For areas prone to falls, we will also prejudge and arrange in advance."
In addition to inspecting protective mats, Luhejiang is also responsible for the conversion of short track speed skating venues and figure skating competition venues. During the Winter Olympics, both figure skating and short track speed skating were held in the Capital Gymnasium, requiring 30 venue changes. "When changing venues, I will disinfect and arrange the tables and chairs and one-meter fences in the areas of the referee, the starting area, the circle platform, the athletes' ice area, the ice car entrance and other areas as quickly as possible."
Each transition involves ice, protective mats, broadcast slots, timing, temporary facilities and other links, all of which must be completed within 2 hours. "Behind every game there are many people who are silently paying, although the strength of the individual is limited, but the power of unity and cooperation is infinite." Lu Hejiang said proudly.
On the evening of February 7, in the men's 1000m final of short track speed skating, China's Ren Ziwei and Li Wenlong won gold and silver medals respectively, and Lu Hejiang witnessed this exciting moment on the sidelines.
