The first episode of the second season of the documentary "But, There Are Books" produced by Station B came to Nanjing and "caught" a 98-year-old man who was soaking in the library in the Nanjing Library. The wind goes, the rain goes, catalogs, books, cycles. He described himself in the library as a fish swimming in the water, "I'm going to die if I get out of the water." He is still busy sorting out the chronology and poetry collection of The Qing Dynasty bibliophile Huang Pilie, who said, "I don't want to live to be 100 years old, I have to live every day."

Two things in Nantu for decades : "Buying a book is like having a girlfriend"

The documentary "But, there are books" produced by Station B is amazing, and it is voiced by Hu Ge throughout. In the first season, it scored 9.1 points on Douban, and in the second season, it scored 9.5. This season expands and upgrades on the basis of the content and style of the first season, and is still committed to recording those who are cute and respectable, and who are passionate about books.

In the Nanjing Library, have you ever met an elderly man who reads books intently? The program unearthed the 98-year-old "sweeping monk" and the veteran figure in the field of domestic version bibliography, Shen Xieyuan.

Shen Lao, who has been retired for more than 30 years, has only changed his life is "no money to take the bus". From six o'clock in the morning, get on the bus at seven o'clock, walk to the library at eight o'clock, and stay for a day. After a lifetime of dealing with ancient books, Shen Xieyuan is known as the "Living Dictionary of Ancient Books". "I've been doing two things in Nantu for decades, one is cataloging, and the other is going outside to buy books."

In Nantu for decades, Shen Xieyuan purchased thousands of ancient books and rare books for Nantu. Among them is a volume of the Northern Song Dynasty's "Greenhouse Bathing Monks' Sutra", which is listed in the "Treasures of the Ten Town Halls of the Southern Map". Elder Shen said, "Buying a book is like making a girlfriend, don't talk about it if you are not successful, otherwise you will not succeed." The barrage is full of "the old man is so cute" and "hahaha".

18 years of participation in the compilation of the "Bibliography of Ancient Chinese Books"

Still busy sorting out the "Yellow Trek"

In 1975, Premier Zhou proposed to compile a general catalogue of good books in the country as soon as possible, thus starting the largest project of compiling ancient books in the mainland's history in the past hundred years. Shen Lao participated in the compilation of the Bibliography of Ancient Chinese Books and served as the editor-in-chief of the sub-department. In the era of no Internet, Shen Lao and 40 other researchers read hundreds of thousands of ancient book cards intensively, relying on their own knowledge to conduct "human flesh" screening. For example, "Qing Dynasty Tang Han Title", is the word "title" superfluous? He knew at a glance, yes. Because in the Qing Dynasty, there were really people named Tang Hanti. He was an upright man, who served as the rong curtain of Zeng Guofan, and his son Tang Jixun was one of the seven martyrs of Xinhai.

In 1995, the "Bibliography of Good Books" was finally completed after eighteen years, and this bibliography surpassed the official and private bibliographies of previous dynasties in terms of quantity and content, and was considered to be the most authoritative joint catalog of ancient books and rare books in China, and Shen Lao was awarded the "Special Contribution Award" by the Ministry of Culture.

At present, Shen Lao is still busy sorting out the inscription collection of Qing Dynasty bibliophile Huang Pilie. Huang Pilie, a native of Suzhou, was a famous bibliophile and collator in the Qing Dynasty, and was known as "the first person to collect books in five hundred years". In his lifetime, he loved to write the trek (referring to the comments behind books, articles, etc., pronounced the same as "pull"), and most of the ancient books he commented on were of great value, and even made "huang bao" a proper noun. Adhering to the principle of "seeking truth from facts in doing scholarship", Elder Shen not only re-proofread the Huang Bao collection of his predecessors and corrected many errors in the old editions, but also tried every means to search for those "Huang Bao" scattered everywhere and had not yet been discovered. "There is not enough time, except for eating and going to the toilet and drinking tea, sitting there for a day without moving." Elder Shen said, "Do what you are interested in and be happy, there are no regrets." I don't want to live to be 100 years old and live every day. ”

It's a foodie who loves to drink a little wine

"He's more fun than expected"

In the film, Shen Lao came to sip a small drink and joked, "You always pat and clap, except for going to the toilet and not shooting." Luo Yingluan, one of the general directors, said in an interview with reporters, "Elder Shen is still quick thinking, walking and climbing stairs are very sharp, and he likes to drink two glasses of wine." When we got in touch with him, we found him to be more fun than we thought. ”

Behind the seemingly unpredictable version of the cataloguist, the other side of Shen Lao's cuteness is exposed. "He would talk to our photographer about entertainment industry gossip; a few years ago, he would buy a color television set to watch "Do Not Disturb"; he was also a foodie and a good wine man, always going to the street from time to time to find good food. But because of his age, his family and friends did not let him drink regularly. While we were filming, he finally caught the opportunity to drink, and we didn't dare to let him drink more, but we couldn't get his alcohol addiction. Luo Yingluan said, "I remember that after eating that day, he was already slightly drunk, and when he stood up, he suddenly raised his arms and yelled: The Great Wall will never fall, it is simply arrogant and dry." ”

Speaking of behind-the-scenes footage, "Although we have done a lot of homework, in front of Shen Lao, who has been working deeply for more than 60 years, he is still a small white, and it is easy to show his horse's feet." And our coping strategy is to coax him with a hippie smile and grab his weaknesses— the book. Luo Yingluan said, "Elder Shen can't understand why we want to shoot this and that, but as long as he sends his beloved book to him, he can talk excitedly for half a day." Luo Yingluan said apologetically, "With the delay of the film, the subtitles have been changing, from Shen Lao's 96 years old, to 97 years old, and then to 98 years old." The new year is coming, and I hope he is still cunning and naïve, full of vitality, and has plenty of time to complete his Huang Pilie completion plan. ”
