Sony's dafa is good: it is looking for partners to simplify the possibility of entering the electric vehicle market

Sony is looking for new technology partners to assist Sony Mobility Inc., which launched in the spring of 2022, into the electric vehicle market. Sony executives shared the news with Reuters, saying their goal is to "cover the functional needs of transport machines and entertainment venues with the characteristics of the car."

Izumi Kawanishi, head of Sony's artificial intelligence machine division and soon to take over Sony Mobile, said what is happening to electric vehicles today is similar to the shift from mobile phones to smartphones with the help of information technology. He added: "We believe the risks of ignoring electric vehicles outweigh the challenges they pose".

Sony unveiled the Vision-S 02 electric SUV concept at the 2022 International Consumer Electronics Show, a successor to the Vision-S 01, both of which were built by Magna Steyr Magna Steyr of Austria, which has extensive experience in this area. Other companies that have assisted in the design and development of Sony cars include Bosch, Valeo and Almotive.

While the concepts look ready for production, and the Vision-S 01 has already begun testing on public roads, it will require a huge investment to build the factory if Sony decides to move on. Tesla, the revolutionary in the electric car space, has made billions of dollars in investments with traditional automakers such as Toyota, Volkswagen, General Motors, Stellantis and others. Therefore, Sony's most viable option is to form a coalition and seek partnerships for its electric vehicle projects. Asked if a Chinese company would be a good fit for Sony, Kawanishi said: "Sony will pick new partners for its EV project based on the technology they can bring to the project, regardless of their nationality." ”

Sony isn't the only tech company looking to enter the ev market, as Apple, LG, Foxconn, Alibaba Group, Xiaomi and Huawei have already announced similar intentions. Electric cars are easier to build than traditional fuel-powered cars, and technological features such as autonomous driving, infotainment, and 5G connectivity are becoming increasingly important for modern cars, attracting newcomers to the game.
