Meta released its new Quest avatar system last year, with a significant upgrade in expressiveness and customizability compared to previous ones. Recently, the company announced the application and standardization of avatar systems across all Meta platforms, including Facebook, Messenger and Instagram, allowing users to build and use the same 3D avatar on VR and social media.

These updates include new face shapes and improvements to the skin shader. To stay inclusive, the company has added new products such as cochlear implants, ear-mounted hearing aids, and wheelchairs in a variety of different colors. To mark the upcoming Super Bowl between the Los Angeles Rams and Bengal Tigers, Meta also introduced limited edition costumes for each team.
As mentioned earlier, these new and improved 3D avatars will be available in VR via the Meta Quest headset as well as Facebook, Messenger, Instagram Stories, and DM. Users can create a separate avatar for each platform or use the same avatar on all three platforms through the Account Center.
The company says the 3D avatar update has begun to roll out gradually. Users in the United States, Canada, and Mexico will already be able to access the feature, and users in other countries will gradually be able to use the feature.
