Recently, as part of the further development of its products, Tesla has published a patent for the global headlamp.
Headlamps are the main tool to improve the safety of people inside and outside the vehicle. The light emitted by the vehicle headlamp can illuminate the driver's vision and improve the visibility of the people inside the car, the light can also be more easily recognized by people outside the car when the vehicle is driving, and in different countries or geographical areas, different regulatory agencies or standard-setting organizations have determined the rules and requirements for the headlights of the car, due to differences in jurisdictions, global car companies have been producing different headlamps, these headlights are mainly for specific jurisdictions, but this also increases the manufacturing cost and complexity of the headlamps.
It is reported that Tesla applied for a "global headlamp" patent on July 28, 2021, which has now been published on February 3, 2022. The patent describes an invention that would make headlamps "generic" and customizable, enabling the company to produce headlamps that meet uniform standards and customize them to meet the requirements of different jurisdictions.
For example, in one scenario, they proposed a computer implementation method performed by a headlamp controller included in the vehicle. The headlamp controller may be configured to control the headlamp of the vehicle by a method, the method comprising: obtaining configuration information indicating the jurisdiction associated with the vehicle; accessing the headlamp status information comprising a plurality of headlamp states; determining the current headlamp state in a plurality of headlamp states based on the configuration information; and resulting in a pixelated light source output via the headlamp based on the propagation of the current headlamp state, the propagation also represents that the headlamp will have a particular beam pattern in accordance with a particular jurisdiction.
In another scenario, they also offer automotive optical distribution systems that meet the requirements of many jurisdictions. The system may include: memory, storing headlamp status information for multiple jurisdictions and the selection of the current jurisdiction; a controller reading the selected current jurisdiction and the headlamp status information associated with the selected jurisdiction; a plurality of emitting elements, configured to output transmission based on the headlamp status information in line with the selected jurisdiction.
This patent announcement also means that Tesla can produce headlamps that meet the requirements of different countries according to different needs, and reduce the cost of producing different types of headlamps, that is, we still do not know what the reason for Tesla's patent publication is.
