Market-wide: During the World Cup, Serie A plans to send 20 teams to the United States for a brand new event

According to an exclusive report by The Whole Market, the Serie A federation is brewing an ambitious plan, during the Qatar World Cup, they plan to let the Serie A 20 team travel to the United States for a brand new event.

As Andrea Butti, head of Serie A operations, has confirmed, Serie A has been considering organizing the tournament for several months, on the one hand, they hope that players who fail to participate in the World Cup will be able to participate in the tournament to stay in shape (Italy has the possibility of winning the World Cup), on the other hand, they also want to expand the influence of the Serie A brand in North America.

At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, 58 of the 736 players in Serie A participated in the tournament. By the time of the World Cup in Qatar, Serie A is expected to contribute between 80 and 85 men, meaning that about 570 players will have a two-month break.

The idea for Serie A is to organize a 20-day tournament with the group stage straight to the quarter-finals. All 20 teams will live, train and play in the same place, which is a parody of the 2020 NBA's "bubble" model during the pandemic.

As for whether the schedule will clash with the World Cup in Qatar, Andrey Buti claims they have studied a schedule that will not clash with the World Cup and will not cause harm to FIFA. However, whether this plan can be truly implemented still needs to wait for FIFA's consent.
