A record high! U.S. debt topped $30 trillion, equivalent to 10 Teslas

According to a report released by the U.S. Treasury Department on February 1, local time, the total amount of U.S. Treasury bonds exceeded $30 trillion for the first time, a record high, which has greatly exceeded the gross domestic product of about $23 trillion in the United States last year. Of the U.S. Treasuries, there are about $23.5 trillion in debt held by the public and about $6.5 trillion in intergovernmental debt.

As of Jan. 31, the total U.S. public debt outstanding was $30.01 trillion, up nearly $7 trillion from the end of January 2020, the data showed. Part of the reason is that the U.S. government has introduced multiple rounds of fiscal relief measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and relied on bond issuance to raise funds.

If there is no concept of 30 trillion, for example, before Tesla's market value once climbed to the peak of $3 trillion, some netizens calculated that as long as they sold 10 Tesla companies, they could pay off this debt.
