According to Automotive News Europe, such an increase would boost global car sales to 85 million units. The forecast comes from analyst firm LMC Automotive, which expects sales to grow 7 percent to 17.8 million units in Europe, 6 percent to 18.7 million units in the U.S. and 5 percent to 26.6 million units in China.

But LMC's Pete Kelly warned that the recovery won't be fully underway until at least the third quarter of this year, suggesting automakers will continue to struggle to produce enough cars to meet customer demand in the first half of the year. The LMC also estimates that last year's outages of production across the board due to chip supply issues would not occur after the second quarter of 2022. However, in the first half of this year, there may be a shortage of chips, but it will not be so serious.
