Tesla's autopilot "rolling stop" feature was recalled by NHTSA in the United States to stop it

A new year was swept away by a Tesla autopilot news, Tesla's autopilot "rolling parking" function was stopped by the UNITED States NHTSA to recall nearly 54,000 cars equipped with this fully autonomous driving software.

This article will quickly introduce, what is the Rolling stop function? Why did NHTSA stop? How does Tesla recall?

Tesla's FSD Autopilot System Beta, which is priced at $12,000, but in fact, some Tesla customers can buy it, which allows owners to choose from three driving modes: "calm", "general" and "confident".

And all you have to do is opt for the general and confident autopilot mode, which allows vehicles to follow other vehicles more closely, change lanes more frequently and roll through intersections. If the system does not detect other vehicles, pedestrians, or cyclists, the "rolling parking" feature allows cars to pass through the intersection at a speed of about 9km/h. Of course, Tesla says the feature is only activated at intersections with sufficient visibility and speed limits of no more than 48km/h.

However, this contradicts the law of the United States, which is a bit like the sidewalks in our country that give way to pedestrians horizontally, some places are not very strict, some places are strict.

Of course, about the story of Tesla and the U.S. Transportation Safety Administration, in fact, in August 2021, an investigation was conducted into a series of accidents in Tesla Autopilot, and it was felt that Autopilot sometimes could not see police cars or fire trucks with flashing emergency lights and stopped, and then a month later Tesla released an update to improve the ability to identify emergency vehicles.

Last November, Tesla modified the software of about 12,000 cars to address braking problems and filed a formal recall to document the move. The automaker also recalled 458,000 vehicles in December due to two separate mechanical defects that could affect safety.

Also in December, security agencies began investigating a feature that allowed front passengers or drivers to play video games on the dashboard screen while a Tesla car was in motion. A day later, Tesla agreed to disable the feature.

This roll stop feature came to light after the Tesla software update added driving modes in October, when the rolling stop problem was exposed.

Of course, Tesla's recall, obviously not like the original traditional recall, it only through the release of software updates to disable this function to achieve the purpose of recall.
