Last summer, during the "7.20" heavy rainstorm disaster in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, the K599 train running in Zhengzhou was stranded in distress, and the original 42-hour journey took nearly 99 hours to reach the end. The Voice of China also followed up on this special journey.
Half a year later, the reporter contacted the conductor and passengers who were dealing with the dangerous situation together again. The Chinese New Year special report "Happy New Year" aired "Home, the End of the K599 Train" today.

At 3:00 p.m. on July 20, 2021, the K599 train from Baotou to Guangzhou ran to the section from Nanyangzhai to Haitang Temple in Zhengzhou City on the Beijing-Guangzhou Line, encountering dangerous situations under heavy rainfall and touching people's hearts. Passenger Liu Han and conductor Lu Chao recounted the above scene in a report by the Voice of China of the Central Broadcasting Corporation.
At noon on January 28, 2022, the reporter called Lu Chao, the commander of the K599 train. The train was passing through Zhengzhou on another trip, and the window flashed past the place that was in distress half a year ago.
Reporter: What is the weather like today?
Lu Chao: Zhengzhou is a bit cloudy, a little foggy.
Reporter: What is the current state of the section of the wall that you just saw?
Lu Chao: Rebuilt, the wall was originally painted, the piece has not been painted, you can still see that it is newly built.

The train set up a passenger detention baggage disposal team
On the day of the incident, Liu Han and his daughter were urgently transferred from car No. 3, and part of the roadbed under the car had been washed away, the sleeper was suspended, and the body was subsequently tilted. Liu Han said that at that time, he heard a tall and fat staff member shouting, "Everyone evacuate quickly, don't take the boxes, take out the valuables."
Half a year later, Liu Han and his daughter were in their hometown of Xining, Qinghai, recalling their mood at that time: "As long as people are okay. After people return safely, they still think that it would be better if they could get their luggage back. Her daughter's suitcase belonged to Kitty's cat, and she thought it was pretty, and it hadn't been used for hours since she had just picked it up. ”

After the bottom of the train returned to Baotou, the Baotou passenger section set up a K599 passenger stranded baggage disposal team, and the deputy captain of the team, Zhao Lei, the conductor Lu Chao, and colleagues rushed to Zhengzhou at the end of July. On the Beijing-Guangzhou line for more than ten years, this is the first time that Lu Chao has departed from Zhengzhou Railway Station.
Lu Chao introduced that the next day after that, there was an epidemic in Zhengzhou. "We are two points and one line, from the accommodation to the disposal of the line to pack this place. More than three hundred pieces of luggage, we called the passengers one by one, many passengers described 'a black trolley box' or 'a silver trolley box', such a lot of suitcases, 60% of which are of this color, we move one by one, one by one to find, give them unpacking checks, video confirmation, there are police presence. ”
A few days later, Liu Han received luggage from a courier at his home in Xining, Qinghai. "When I delivered my luggage to my doorstep that day, I was particularly touched that when our country encountered these things, everyone was really united."
Luggage from thousands of miles away brought Liu Han's memories back to that journey. She went to Anyang, Henan Province, to visit her grandmother, a group of six people in addition to her, including two old people and three children, originally planned to go to Zhengzhou to go to Xining, Qinghai. The train was delayed and in distress during heavy rain on July 20, and the railway was blocked. They chose to stay in the car, and after more than 3 days, they arrived in Guangzhou on the evening of July 23.
Liu Han returned to Xining from Guangzhou with his daughter and aunt, and has not left since half a year. "From October to November, there was also an epidemic in Xining, and our community was sealed off for 20 days."
The Spring Festival passenger flow is not large, but I dare not let down my vigilance
Unforgettable passengers from complaining to understanding
K599 resumed operations in August last year, and Lu Chao and his colleagues continued to devote themselves to their daily work after resting. This year's Spring Festival was also affected by the epidemic, and the passenger flow of K599 times was not large. However, in the 42 hours that run through the north and south of China, driving, epidemic prevention and other work is still not easy.
Lu Chao: This year's attendance rate may be 50%. The flow of passengers is not large, but we dare not let our guard down.
Reporter: After that experience, if you encounter heavy rain in the back driving process, will you be more nervous?
Lu Chao: Yes. Through this incident, our emergency response capabilities have been further enhanced.
Liu Han and his family sent a letter of commendation to the team, and Lu Chao also received a pennant from the passengers. When you leave the old and welcome the new, you will always think of what you have experienced in the past year and the people you have met. Liu Han's 8-year-old daughter Xu Yuchen said on the phone: "Thank you uncle and aunt for their concern, I am here to wish them a happy new year, a prosperous year of the tiger, and a tiger and a tiger." ”

Looking back on that journey, Liu Han said that the hardest thing to forget is the moment of distress transfer. And what train captain Lu Chao most often thinks of is the change of passengers from complaining to understanding. "When we resumed normal driving, they began to understand us and speak for us through media introductions and some situations on both sides of the line, and I felt particularly touched."

The second time Lu Chao's phone was dialed was on the morning of January 31, Chinese New Year's Eve. The train returns to Baotou from Guangzhou and is about to reach its final station. This is also the second time that Lu Chao can go home for more than a decade after working in the K599 team for Chinese New Year's Eve.
Lu Chao said that when he started in 2007, he was on the K599 train, basically once in 7 years Chinese New Year's Eve at home for the New Year. "The children are happy and waiting to collect the money. I can take my kids to see the movies, my lover said there are two animated movies, especially looking forward to it. ”
Lu Chao said that he thanked everyone for their attention to the K599 Guangzhou group.
