In the notebook market, Intel has been a big company for many years, but in recent years, with the innovative Zen series core architecture and advanced manufacturing process, AMD Ryzen mobile processors have won the market and reputation with excellent energy efficiency and super performance, becoming the cutting-edge choice of the notebook market, and there are also a large number of AMD platform products to choose from in the commercial market. So there are a lot of notebook products of the same model but with different processor platforms on the market, in addition to the processor, the rest of the configuration is basically the same, if you put aside these configuration factors, the choice of commercial already returns to the core factor of the processor, then in the end should choose Intel Core or AMD Ryzen™ or ?

When it comes to processor differences, many people will habitually think that Intel processor models will not have compatibility problems, and AMD processor models will have compatibility problems. In fact, in the history of PC and notebook development for more than 40 years, AMD has been the catfish in this "river", launched many pioneering technologies to promote PC innovation, along with the development of PCs, many x86 software will adapt and be compatible with these two different processor platforms. This is even more telling if both commercial books come from the same vendor and have the same configuration, only the processors are different. Is the Commercial Edition more powerful or the Ryzen Edition more powerful? In order to further clarify this problem and help business users make better choices, we recently found two commercial books from the same manufacturer with the same configuration, and used them to do a comprehensive series of performance and practical office application tests and experiences to see if Core or Ryzen is more worthy of choice.
These two machines are the same brand and model of commercial books, in addition to the difference in processors, the two machines in memory, screen, battery, appearance size, SSD specifications, cameras, fan design and other aspects are the same, with them to run the test can be a good way to see the difference between the same product at the processor level, the results of this test can also help users more clearly understand the impact of the processor platform on performance and experience.
The two platforms tested: one with the Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor and the other with the AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800U processor. All other configurations are identical.
Power and system settings
Power management policies have a great impact on the performance of notebook platforms, and many OEMs will add their own optimized power management strategies for their own products, such as many manufacturers have their own power management strategies, which can take over the power management plan of Windows.
In order to make this competition more comparable, we upgraded the systems of both machines to the latest Win 11 Home Edition 21H2 version, and the power modes included in the Win 11 system are only "best energy efficiency", "balance" and "best performance", instead of the Win 10 system's "balance", "longer battery life", "better performance", "longest battery life" and several other complex options. We set both machines to the "balanced" mode that comes with the Win 11 system (the power plan in the control panel is also set to "balanced" mode). This is more in line with the actual usage habits of users, and can better reflect the impact of the processor platform on the performance of the whole machine.
It should be noted that even if the power supply is plugged in, if the battery of the notebook is not full, it will also affect the actual performance of the notebook, because the power supply of the notebook under high load is insufficient at this time. Many people overlook this, and our testing process is carried out with a full battery (100%) plugged in.
Let's start with a series of benchmark results
First of all, in the CINEBENCH R20 processor rendering performance test, the two platforms were evenly matched on a single thread, but the AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800U had a slight advantage with a 1-point gap. In terms of multi-threading, we can see a clear gap, AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800U completely crushed the Core i7-1165G7, leading an exaggerated 115%.
In the CINEBENCH R23 processor rendering performance test, the single-threaded Core i7-1165G7 pulled back a round, with a slight advantage, but in multi-threading, it is still the AMD Ryzen 7 5800U that maintains an absolute lead, and the lead is still an exaggerated 103%.
The 3DMark CPU Profile is a specialized test of modern processors, and the largest threads reflect the processor's capabilities under intensive compute-intensive tasks, such as digital content creation and 3D rendering, all thanks to multi-threaded performance. As you can see, the AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800U is also completely ahead of the Core i7-1165G7 here. In the physics score of the 3DMark Fire Srtike, the Ryzen Version also leads the Core Edition by about 81%.
In the CPU-Z 1.99 processor test, the AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800U achieved a single-threaded score of 592.2, while the Core i7-1165G7 only received a single-threaded score of 581.9. In multi-threaded testing, the AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800U also maintained its lead as always.
In the wPrime 1.55 (1024MB) processor test, the Ryzen™ 7 5800U took only 92.299 seconds to complete 1024MB rendering, while the Core i7-1165G7 took 234.975 seconds, which was significantly behind.
In the PCMark 10 benchmark, which represents the overall performance of the whole machine, the Ryzen Version also performed better than the Core Edition.
In the CPU Mark of professional test software PerformanceTest 10.2, the AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800U is ahead of the Core i7-1165G7, both in terms of single-threaded and total test scores.
According to our test results, we can see that for commercial thin and light books that are not equipped with a unique display, the performance of the processor largely determines the overall performance of the commercial thin and light books in the case of the same model, configuration, optimization and system tuning. From our test results, we can also see that the difference between the processors of the two identical products can significantly affect the comprehensive performance of the whole machine, thus bringing huge differences to the user's experience.
The typical scenarios commonly used by commercial thin and light users are nothing more than office office, web browsing, medium and light commercial videos, and corporate promotional videos editing and processing, in which the rendering and export of videos, the decompression of large compressed files and other operations are more dependent on the multi-threading ability of the processor, in this regard, it is obvious that AMD Ryzen™ processors have more advantages. Of course, with 8 cores to play 4 cores, with 16 threads to play 8 threads itself is not in place, but the difference in processor specifications depends on what choices the upstream leading chip manufacturers in each camp can provide, the current low-voltage processor, Intel can only provide the choice of 4 cores, downstream OEMs and end users can not be left and right, so the balance of the reverse is also the result of the helplessness of the market. Moreover, it is also true that the price of amD Ryzen™ Edition is even cheaper for the same product.
Different from ordinary consumer-grade thin and light books, in addition to performance, thin and light commercial books have done a lot of homework in terms of reliability, security, interface design and usage habits for commercial users, so they can meet the needs of commercial users. For SMB users and general commercial users, especially for many small businesses or startups, the scale of operation is small, the number of employees and turnover are not large, there may not be a full-time IT department, how to choose a strong performance, high office efficiency, stable and reliable commercial book, to achieve the effect of half the effort, it has become a problem.
This is also the practical significance of our work on this topic, hoping to bring comprehensive and meticulous comparison results through a series of performance and practical office application tests, helping everyone to understand the differences in office efficiency and use experience brought by different processor platforms when purchasing and purchasing commercial books.
