Morricone was born in Rome, Italy, in 1928 to the son of a trumpet player. Gifted, he began composing music at the age of six and attended the Santa Cecilia Conservatory at a young age, taking courses in classical music. After graduating from the Academy, he began writing salon music and later taught at the Sardené Conservatory.

His first film with a soundtrack was Secret Mission, directed by Luciano Sark. In 1964, Morricone was hired by the Italian director Sergio Leone, thus beginning a long-term collaboration between the two. Morricone and Leone were elementary school classmates, but the two did not see each other for more than twenty years. Leone's series of "Italian macaroni westerns" created Morricone's unique soundtrack. They began by collaborating on the "Dart Trilogy" starring Eastwood – "Red Dead Redemption", "Dusk Dart", "Golden Dart", especially in "Red Dead Redemption", the first rough, dashing trumpet theme and empty, distant, careless whistle solo in the history of film music, which is refreshing. Morricone became famous in the First World War. Subsequently, the two continued to cooperate in the filming of the "Past Trilogy" set in American history - "Once Upon a Time in the West", "Once Upon a Time in America", and "Once Upon a Time in the Revolution", which also achieved great success. In "Once Upon a Time in America", Morricone uses a long, empty arrangement to pull the thoughts of the male protagonist played by De Niro back to the green years, making people feel infinite emotions about the impermanence of fate.

At the end of the 1980s, Morricone and his new partner Italian director Tornadore launched more than ten films such as "Cinema Paradiso", "Journey to Heaven", "The Pianist of the Sea", "The Beautiful Legend of Sicily", among which in "The Pianist of the Sea", Morricone used the piano as the main piano to create a charming movement with intoxicating tone, beautiful melody and timeless style. For the film, he won the Best Music Award at the 57th Golden Globe Awards.

He has worked with many big-name directors, including Girough Pentecvo's 1966 Battle of Algiers, Don Siegel's 1970", Brian de Palma's 1987 "The Iron Mask," Wolfgang Peterson's 1993 "The Line of Fire, and Warren Beatty's 1998".

Morricone has his own unique creative habits, he can not watch the film, only ask the director to dictate the general story and characters, and then according to his own understanding can be the soundtrack of the film. In more than 50 years of film scoring, he has participated in more than 500 films. Morricone was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Score five times, but lost it each time, and it wasn't until 2016 that he won the 88th Academy Award for Best Original Score for Quentin Tarantino's "Eight Wicked Men", and he burst into tears on the podium.

In May 2009, Morricone came to Beijing with the Hungarian Gyur Philharmonic Orchestra and held the "Enio Morricone Film Past Symphony Concert" at the Great Hall of the People.

The famous director Wong Kar-wai learned of his death yesterday and wrote on his Weibo: The past has existed for a long time, and there have been in his heart. Wong Kar-wai's "A Generation of Grandmasters" also uses a short piece of Morricone's original music for "Once Upon a Time in America" . The Morricone documentary, produced by Wong Kar-wai and directed by Tornadore, is expected to be released this year.
