One look at such lines, you know, Wong Kar Wai is here again. But where did this line come from, and what is the deeper meaning. After watching this short film in Xiamen, you will understand.
In fact, the film that was deleted by Wong Kar-wai has already had a movie. "Zero Degrees Celsius Spring Light Reappears", I think of it as "Wong Kar-wai's crime scene in Buenos Aires". This crime, which has the sound of the film, is mainly aimed at Wong Kar-wai's squandering of film and the creation of all-out efforts.
Yesterday, Zedong's 30th anniversary commemorative short film "Zero Point 01 Cm Distance" streaming was launched. It is said that you can buy several eggs for a fee.
But for me, the hour hand of this annual moment has to be dialed a few hours ahead, and it belongs to the evening of December 29, 2021 , Xiamen's "Golden Rooster Hong Kong Classic Film Festival", the film in the form of 4K restoration, IMAX version, the first screening in the mainland.
This is also the fourth time I have watched "Fancy Years".
Like many Hong Kong films, the first time I watched it happened when I was a student, the impression was thin, as if looking back at the remnants of people's heads in the streets and alleys. The second time, I just went to Beijing, and often watched a Chinese version (it should be the theater version of that year) at the old film salon screened at the North Third Ring Road Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Cinema. The third time, in 2014, in Beijing, the museum's retrospective exhibition of Wong Kar-wai's works (presumably to coincide with the release of the 3D version of "A Generation of Grandmasters") was a deep loneliness.
As the mouth said, "The Distance of Zero Point 01 Centimeter", which has been picked and cut for several years, has changed from the 25th anniversary of Zedong to the 30th anniversary, as the Easter egg screening after the same screening of "Fancy Years", it ended the Wong Kar Wai retrospective screening of Jersey around the world this year, and also in fact, it ended this difficult 2021 year (which is why I chose to push it today).
This is not the first time that "Distance of 0.01 cm" has been screened. At the Hong Kong International Film Festival, it was screened as a mysterious short film after the screening of the 4K restored version of "Spring Breaks". In this way, it is not difficult to understand why it is closer to a set of short films mainly in memory of the late Zhang Guorong. Of course, the first volume of film of "Fancy Years", which was auctioned for four or five million Hong Kong dollars earlier, is also in the film.
After removing the fancy mixed cuts unique to the Qingsheng short film, "0.01 cm Distance" mainly revolves around Wong Kar-wai's two feature films "East Evil west poison" and "Spring Break". Chen Huihong, in a voice similar to Liang Chaowei, tells the story of searching for and finding in the old warehouse in Zedong, and finally turned over some good goods (close to the editing process in the film creation).
As we all know, Wong Kar-wai is not only known for wasting film, he only disregards the weight of the star cast and wants to delete the scene, so he deletes it all. In wong kar wai's team, whether it is Tan Jiaming or Zhang Shuping, they have to face a process of how to cut and how to screen. Wong Kar-wai and Du Kefeng often leave enough footage, even in an almost wasteful way, shooting at multiple angles and testing at different rates. At the most exaggerated stage of development, when the midnight show is released, the film film is edited, rinsed, and sent to the cinema at the same time. Inevitably, some of them are missing, that is, the version that has never been seen before.
What the short film shows is the wonderful effect of sound on a movie. In "Fancy Years", the spouses of Su Lizhen and Zhou Muyun have only a body shape and a back, and only appear in the form of a voice/voice. This, of course, was wong kar-wai's intention. One of my favorite scenes of "Fancy Years" is the prelude to "Quizas Quizas Quizas" that suddenly rings out. Zhou Muyun on the other end of the phone and Su Lizhen on the other end of the phone did not have a dialogue, and they seemed to understand something. In other words, in many cases, the protagonist of the movie actually does not open his mouth, does not say lines, can reveal more emotions, and the audience gets richer feelings from the movie. Similar moments, there are the ringing of the phone in the telephone booth of "Ah Fei Zheng Biography" and the tango song of "Spring Breaks".
After the development is completed, in the editing work, the discarded old film, sealed for a long time, has become a real sense, unable to open, lost its voice. "Distance of 0.01 centimeter" shows a fragment of Zhang Guorong with a lost track. He lowered his lips to say what he was trying to say to the audience.
At this time, Wong Kar-wai dedicated his voice to answer the causes and consequences of "East Evil and West Poison". Xi Poison is a tragic character, and Xi Poison is worried about a small child. At the end, he returned to the White Camel Mountain, in the rush of the sea, watching the children playing on their backs. In this way, audiences familiar with this film can easily string together the front and back shots, and they return to the main film one by one, and the way back is also the place.
The same wave of the sea is the beginning of the movie with clouds in the Buddhist scriptures. It turned out that before Zhang Guorong opened his monologue, there were still lines. It turned out that the lines he had said were handed over to the Eastern Evil Liang Jiahui to repeat, but they sounded completely different. "East Evil West Poison" also pioneered the use of subtitle cards to supplement the description of the subtitle card when Wong Kar-wai could not complete the sequential editing, and "Fancy Years" and "Generation Grandmaster" both had related techniques to show.

After the 20th anniversary of "The Distance of Zero Point 01 Centimeter", some sounds were added to "Spring Break", and Zhang Zhen and Zhang Guorong appeared in a scene at the same time. Moreover, along with this scene, it is not difficult to find that "Spring Break" may have preset other endings, and Zhang Guorong cried so sadly.
All along, fans' obsession with Wong Kar-wai's love of deleting film is tantamount to the infinite reincarnation of chickens and eggs and eggs. Although Wong Kar-wai often consumes more than ten times the amount of film used by Wu Yusen, Jackie Chan and others, I recently read "Life and Death" by the Japanese photography master Tumen Quan, and Tumen Quan also "wasted" more negatives than the average person, resulting in many people complaining. However, his admonition to newcomer photographers and amateur photographers is to shoot as much as possible, and the more you shoot, the better.
In the past two decades, the film shooting and screening of films have gradually declined, withdrawing from the world film world, and only Nolan and others have complained. But film is on the brink of extinction, and it is definitely not caused by Wong Kar-wai. Today, not only Zhang Guorong's fans, but also everyone is calculating how much discarded film Wong Kar-wai still has. Film that can be wasted, there is a steady stream of film to waste, it turns out to be a kind of luck.
The film also expresses Wong Kar-wai's attitude through tidbits such as eggs and food. For example, a section of Wonton noodles, filmed very much like a commercial film or the tip of the tongue in China, moves left and right, and is also imitating the operation of "Fancy Years". It can be seen that the combination of short films is relatively arbitrary, and if it is treated with strict short films, I am afraid that it is far from perfect, but in terms of emotional strength, it has hit the hearts of too many Hong Kong film fans just in the form of the sound track.
Relive "Fancy Years", new as ever, full of color, beautiful and amazing. The biggest emotion is the use of skills, the art in place, so that the possibility and uncertainty of the love between men and women, each other as actors in the play, become obsessed. Its music use is excellent, and the theme track always sounds at a specific moment, and it will not become the mode of singing and singing in the mainland cinema today. The light and shadow of "Fancy Years" is inherited from the 1960s of "Ah Fei Zheng Biography", but it can also find such an emergency way to end as Angkor Wat. "Fancy Years" constantly creates a relationship between men and women who are silent and better than sound through the separation of a wall. Separated by a wall, there is room 2046, which hides secrets, will not grow old, and will not die. Among the various film selections, "Fancy Years" is one of the few sets of films that have the greatest influence on filmmakers in the 21st century. Wong Kar-wai always makes the same movie, it doesn't matter. Because in everyone's heart, there is a favorite Wong Kar Wai. Wong Kar-wai and the Hong Kong films behind him, placed in the history of world cinema, will never become obsolete.
