Nissan e.dams are set to open the eighth season of Formula E

The narrow and winding circuit of the ancient city of Diriyah has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The first two races of the highly anticipated Formula E World Championship season eight will be held here and will continue to follow the night format adopted since the previous season.

Following a rigorous pre-season testing in Valencia, Spain, last month, the Diriyah race will also be the first race of rising star Maximilian Guenther on behalf of the Nissan e.dams team. The highly prolific German driver joined nissan e.dams in September 2021 after winning the Formula E Championship three times. Meanwhile, for veteran Sebastien Buemi, this is the fourth time since 2018 that he has represented the Nissan e.dams team.

Season VIII is the last to adopt the current rules of the race, and the second generation of Formula E (Gen2) will unleash unprecedented performance. In racing mode, the power of the car can be increased by 20kW to 220kW. In "Attack Mode", the power of the car is also increased by 15kW to 250kW. The new qualifying format will also be launched in the new season, and the new driver-to-two duel format, as well as shorter free practice time, will bring greater challenges to drivers and teams, but it will undoubtedly bring more fun to fans.

Mr. Tommaso Volpe, Nissan Motor's Director of Global Motorsport, said: "After completing valencia's pre-season tests, we are well prepared to move on to Diriyah this week. The car will be more powerful and faster this season, which will make the race more exciting. Of course, this is a good thing for fans, but it means that we need to adjust the car settings to accommodate the greater output power, while also closely monitoring the battery temperature. In fact, one of the main challenges we faced in Diriyah was adapting to the conditions on the track. The temperature difference between day and night here is extremely large, which adds more complexity to the event. ”

"We are all very much looking forward to the start of the new season. The whole team is scrappy and ready to achieve another good result on the track. Our goal is not only to compete for the championship, but more importantly, to continue to demonstrate Nissan's expertise in the field of electro-drive and to demonstrate our strong commitment to sustainable development through the excellent platform of Formula E. Mr. Tommaso Volpe added.

Gregory and Olivier Driot, head of the Nissan e.dams team, also said: "Previously, the Nissan e.dams team worked hard in Valencia to successfully complete the pre-season test race. Sebastien Buemi and Maximilian Guenther actively completed multi-lap tests and collected a lot of data in the simulations, bringing us great value. ”

"Despite the large number of high-speed corners at the Diriyah circuit, our car was able to cope with it. In addition, the thorough preparations for the pre-season and previous experience with the track helped us to optimise the car settings. Since the launch of the Diriyah circuit in the fifth season, the Nissan e.dams team has achieved good results in every regular race in Diriyah. So we are very much looking forward to this tournament and actively trying to get off to the top. ”
