Wang Wenjuan studied under the famous Yue opera artist Zhu Su'e in 1947, founded the Shaozhuang Yue Opera Troupe in 1947, joined the Yulan Theater Troupe in 1948, and began more than half a century of cooperation with Xu Yulan.
After liberation, Wang Wenjuan cooperated with Xu Yulan to perform progressive plays such as "The White-Haired Girl". In 1953, the two joined the Cultural and Labor Corps of the Political Department of the Chinese Volunteer Army Armistice Negotiation Delegation, and Wang Wenjuan was awarded the Order of the National Flag of the Third Class by the Workers' Party of Korea and the Second Class Military Merit Medal given by the Volunteer Army Command. In 1957, Wang Wenjuan joined the Communist Party of China.
In 1958, Wang Wenjuan and Xu Yulan's masterpieces "Dream of the Red Chamber" and "Chasing Fish" were successively put on the screen, causing a national sensation and making great contributions to the popularization of Yue opera art.
Wang Wenjuan's singing voice is simple and simple, natural and smooth, in the long-term artistic practice, eclectic, integrated, formed their own singing style, and founded the Yue opera "Wang Pai" Danjiao genre.
In 2017, Wang Wenjuan won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 27th Shanghai Magnolia Theatre Performing Arts Awards. In April 2019, he won the "Lifetime Achievement Award" of the 7th Shanghai Literature and Art Award, and on October 26, he was awarded the title of "Lifetime Achievement Dramatist of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles" in 2019.
