Nordic biathlon in the ice and snow

On February 9, the Nordic biathlon competition of the Beijing Winter Olympics will be held at the National Ski Jumping Center and the National Cross-Country SkiIng Center. At that time, the individual standard platform + 10 km cross-country skiing competition, the individual big jump + 10 km cross-country ski race and the team big jump + 4X5 km cross-country ski race will be held until February 17, resulting in a total of three gold medals.

Nordic biathlon in the ice and snow

Nordic biathlon is divided into ski jumping and cross-country skiing, which is an all-round test of guts, physical fitness, endurance and technology, also known as the Nordic all-around, and is also the only competition in the Winter Olympics that only has a men's event. Ski jumping requires athletes to have the instantaneous explosive power of the take-off and the physical coordination of the air flight stage to obtain better flight distances; cross-country skiing requires athletes to have strong cardiopulmonary function and physical fitness to maintain sustained high-intensity physical output.

In terms of competition rules, the two events of the Nordic binomial are the same as the rules of the ski jumping and cross-country skiing competitions, the first ski jumping in the competition, and then cross-country skiing, the latter all using free technology, with an interval of 2 to 3 hours, in which the score of the ski jumping competition will determine the order and interval of the athlete's cross-country skiing competition.

In individual competitions, for every 1 point trailing athlete in the platform jumping competition, the cross-country skiing competition is postponed by 4 seconds, and the first athlete to reach the finish line is the champion. In the team competition, the order and interval of departure of the first athletes of the cross-country skiing team are determined by the total score of the ski jumping team, and each point behind is delayed by 1.33 seconds, and the second, third and fourth athletes wait in the relay zone. The order in which the fourth runner arrives at the finish line determines the team's ranking, with the first arriver winning the championship.

Nordic biathlon is a combination of ski jumping and cross-country skiing, so the venue is also divided into two parts: ski jumping and cross-country skiing. The Nordic biathlon competition venue for the Winter Olympic Games must be specially designed and must technically meet the requirements of the competition rules, and the venue hosting the Nordic nordic competition of the Winter Olympic Games must have an A-level qualification certificate issued by the International Snow Federation.

The Nordic biathlon ski jumping competition at the Beijing Winter Olympics will be held at the National Ski Jumping Center "Xue Ruyi" in Zhangjiakou, consisting of a ski slope, a landing slope and a stop zone. The ski lift includes the departure section, the diagonal straight section, the transition curve section and the jumping platform, and the width shall not be less than 2.5 meters. The width of the landing slope shall not be less than 7.2 meters, and the width of the large platform shall not be less than 9.6 meters, and this width extends from the landing slope to the K point.

The K point is the origin of the scoring coordinates of the landing zone, and the line that extends to both sides with the K point and is perpendicular to the direction of the athlete's jump is the standard line used by the distance monitoring referee and distance surveyor to evaluate the athlete's jump distance.

National Cross-Country Skiing Center

The Nordic biathlon cross-country skiing competition of the Beijing Winter Olympics will be held at the National Cross-Country Skiing Center in Prince Edward City, Chongli District, Zhangjiakou, and the track is divided into three parts: 1/3 uphill section, 1/3 flat section and 1/3 downhill section, and in the 1/3 uphill section, the slope is 9 to 18 degrees, and the height difference is more than 10 meters. At the same time, some short slopes with an incline of more than 18 degrees should be added to the track. The track also has 1/3 undulating pavement, with a height difference of between 1 and 9 meters.

Ski jumping suits are generally made of synthetic fibers, and the lining is lined with foam to prevent falls. To increase the distance of the jump, the foam thickness is limited to less than 5 mm and the wind resistance is 30%. In order to improve the jump distance, athletes should choose a longer snowboard, the length is generally multiplied by the height of 1.46, and the bottom plate has three grooves. At the same time, according to the height and weight of athletes, the rules make corresponding requirements for ski clothes, ski boots and helmets, ski goggles and snowboard lengths.

The bottom of the snowboard for cross-country skiing is very smooth, because there is a thick coating wax on the surface, and the role of this surface layer is to glide. The length of the snowboard is generally 10 to 15 centimeters in height, and the hardness (tension) of the snowboard is considered to be compatible with the weight.

In the Biathlon Intercontinental Cup of the International Snow Federation nordics held in November 2021, Zhao Jiawen won a precious ticket for the Chinese team in the men's individual standard platform + 10 km cross-country skiing competition. For the Nordic biathlon national team established in September 2016, it is the first time that China has stepped onto the stage of Nordic biathlon at the Winter Olympic Games, so let us look forward to the olympic athletes achieving good results in the "Olympic debut".
