The two departments issued documents regulating the naming of TCM medical technology

The Office of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the General Office of the National Health Commission recently jointly issued a notice stressing that the naming of traditional Chinese medicine medical technology should conform to the theory, scientific norms, short and accurate, reflect the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine, adopt professional terms of traditional Chinese medicine, and must not use exaggerated, self-proclaimed, unrealistic terms, misleading language for patients, and vulgar or feudal superstitious terms.

TCM medical technology is an important means of TCM clinical services. The "Notice on Standardizing the Naming of TCM Medical Technology in Medical Institutions and Strengthening the Management of the Clinical Application of TCM Medical Technology" released on the 26th said that at present, the naming methods of TCM medical technology in medical institutions are complicated and arbitrary, and there are problems such as "one skill and many more".

In order to further standardize the naming of TCM medical technology and strengthen the management of the clinical application of TCM medical technology, the circular requires that medical institutions carry out TCM medical technology with the same operating methods and connotations as in the "TCM Medical Technology Manual (Popular Edition)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Manual") and the "National Medical Service Price Project Specification (2012 Edition)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Code"), and should use the name of the TCM medical technology in the "Manual" and the "Code", and must not name itself.

At the same time, medical institutions shall carry out TCM medical technology services that are compatible with their technical capabilities in accordance with the Requirements of the Administrative Measures for the Clinical Application of Medical Technology and other laws, regulations, and rules and regulations to ensure the safety of clinical application and reduce medical risks. Medical institutions bear the main responsibility for the clinical application and management of TCM medical technology in their institutions.

The circular also requires that medical institutions should establish and implement management systems such as clinical application demonstration and evaluation of traditional Chinese medicine medical technology in their institutions; they should study and formulate technical operation specifications and management requirements within their institutions, clarify management regulations and risk prevention measures; strengthen the training and assessment of technical operators, standardize the operation behavior of personnel, carry out technical operations in strict accordance with technical operation specifications, and comply with relevant requirements such as hospital sense control. Health administrative departments at all levels and competent departments of traditional Chinese medicine should make full use of informatization and other means to strengthen the supervision of the application of traditional Chinese medicine medical technology during and after the event, ensure the quality of medical treatment, and prevent medical risks.
