Since August 27 last year, the hitchhiking business has been discontinued indefinitely, and it has been 448 days since then, during which Didi has made a lot of efforts, and the changes in the new plan can be glimpsed. The trial operation plan has made a key reply to the security access issues that users are generally concerned about, and Didi will introduce a screening mechanism for untrustworthy people and actively explore ways to cooperate with third-party credit product enterprises in order to further improve the user access threshold. In addition, personalized avatars, genders and other information related to user privacy will be permanently offline.

Moreover, the hitchhiking business is a business after all, and buyers and sellers have the freedom to voluntarily conclude contracts. When one party does not agree, it cannot be forced to buy and sell. If Didi believes that the risk of carrying women at night is greater and is unwilling to do this part of the business, then outsiders have no right to intervene.
Objectively speaking, it is very difficult to completely put an end to the cases of evil deeds such as last year. When the scale is large, no matter how small the probability multiplied by the huge cardinality, the small probability event will also occur. The reason why other ride-hailing companies have not had similar accidents before may be because they are not large enough.

First of all, it must be seen that the hitchhiking business can create value for car owners and passengers, and there is indeed a relevant demand in the market. Otherwise, Didi would not have braved great pressure to resume the hitchhiking business.
However, this is also based on the most basic premise of ensuring security. Therefore, Didi's rectification over the past year and more is not only a requirement of social responsibility, but also a necessary condition for it to survive as a company.
However, the requirements for safety should also be balanced, and food should not be wasted because of choking. For example, in recent years, the number of deaths due to traffic accidents in China is about 60,000 people every year, an average of more than 160 people per day, don't we drive? Problems are not terrible, face the problem, find out the cause, prescribe the right medicine, and minimize the degree of harm, which is a more rational way of thinking.
Secondly, Didi's refusal to accept orders from women after 20 o'clock is not illegal, but it is not the best option from the perspective of social effects. Now is not the era of requiring women to "go out of the door and not to go out", women's night travel is completely reasonable and legal, and women cannot be required not to go out at night because the means of protection are not perfect, not to mention that some travel is still just needed. This time, Didi's new plan has made great efforts in security issues. However, unfortunately, the linkage with the police is still unsatisfactory, leaving a large security legacy. The "one-click alarm" function is now upgraded to 110 alarm, but although it is called "upgrade", it still seems that passengers still need to operate to report to the police, and it is difficult to imagine that female passengers can calmly explain their location, route, vehicle number plate and so on to the police in the case of being threatened to be held hostage. The actual effect of this function may be worrying.
Is there a better solution?
