The First National Games

It was held in Beijing from September 13 to October 3, 1959. Shanghai sent 376 athletes to participate in 32 major competitions, a total of 386 medals of various ranks, 40 championships, 34 runners-up, 30 third places (excluding exhibition competitions), according to the number of people won a total of 80 gold medals, 46 silver medals, 48 bronze medals, the total performance ranked third in the country. Shanghai has 26ers and 3 teams breaking 29 national records 40 times.

2nd National Games

It was held in Beijing from 11 to 28 September 1965. Shanghai sent 258 athletes to participate in all 23 major competitions, and won 37 championships, 51 runners-up and 26 third places in 169 individual finals. The group ranked second in the country in total. In the preliminary round and final, the Shanghai team had 6 people break 2 world records twice, and 45 people broke 33 national records 52 times.

The 3rd National Games

It was held in Beijing on September 12-28, 1975. Shanghai sent 395 athletes to participate, winning a total of 28 first prizes (19 in the adult group and 9 in the junior group), 34 second prizes (21 in the adult group, 13 in the junior group), and 36 third places (25 in the adult group and 11 in the junior group). In the preliminary, final and provisionally organized joint record-breaking matches, Shanghai had 8 people break national records 16 times and 4 people 11 times break 5 national junior records.

The 4th National Games

It was held in Beijing from September 15 to 30, 1979. Shanghai sent 518 athletes to participate, winning a total of 36 gold medals, 32 silver medals, 32 bronze medals, the adult gold medal ranked third in the country, including the junior group the total number of gold medals for the fourth place in the country. Shanghai has 1 person with 1 world record, 2 people breaking 2 Asian records 3 times, 15 people and 1 team breaking 17 national records 30 times, and 2 people and 1 team breaking 3 national youth records 3 times.

The 5th National Games

It was held in Shanghai from September 18 to October 1, 1983. Shanghai sent 391 athletes to compete, winning a total of 33 gold medals, 34 silver medals and 31 bronze medals. 286 people won the top 8 in 173 individual events. The number of medals won ranks first in the country, and the number of gold medals ranks second in the country. Shanghai has 1 person breaking 1 world record 2 times, 1 person breaking 1 Asian record 2 times, 8 people and 2 teams breaking 8 national records 16 times, 6 teams have been rated as spiritual civilization sports teams, and 51 people have been rated as spiritual civilization athletes.

The 6th National Games

It was held in Guangzhou from November 20 to December 5, 1987. Shanghai sent 571 athletes to compete, winning 32 first prizes (46 won 64 gold medals), 29 runners-up, 24 third prizes, and 342 people won the top eight. Shanghai has a total of 1 person and 2 times to exceed 2 world records, 4 people to break 6 Asian records 8 times, and 9 people and 2 teams to break 17 national records 22 times.

The 7th National Games

From August 15, 1993 to September 15, 1993, in Sichuan, Qinhuangdao and Beijing, Shanghai sent 477 athletes to participate in 29 finals, winning 29 gold medals, 22 silver medals, 17 bronze medals, the total team score of 787 points, the number of gold medals and the total score ranked third in the country. Shanghai has a total of 2 people and 1 team to surpass 3 world records 4 times, 1 person and 1 time to draw the world record; 5 people and 3 teams have set 9 national records 11 times.

The 8th National Games

It was held in Shanghai from October 12 to 24, 1997. Shanghai sent 570 athletes to compete, winning a total of 42 gold medals, 34 silver medals and 32 bronze medals, the first of the 47 participating delegations. The group score was 2218.5 points, which also ranked first. Shanghai has a total of 6 people who have surpassed 11 world records 17 times, 5 people have exceeded 7 Asian records 9 times, and 6 people have set 8 national records 9 times. The Shanghai delegation was awarded the Sportsmanship Award by the Organizing Committee by unanimous vote.

9th National Games

Held in Guangdong from November 11 to 25, 2001, Shanghai sent 570 athletes to participate, winning a total of 30.5 gold medals, 28.5 silver medals, 25.5 bronze medals, a total of 83.5 medals, a total team score of 1807 points, the number of gold medals, medals and team scores are ranked third in the country. There are 2 people who have surpassed 2 world records twice, 1 team that has set 1 Asian record once, and 2 people who have exceeded 2 Asian records twice. The Shanghai delegation won the Sportsmanship Award of the National Games with a good mental outlook.

The 10th National Games

It was held in Jiangsu on October 12-23, 2005. Shanghai sent 651 athletes to participate, winning a total of 26 gold medals, 48 silver medals, 44.5 bronze medals, a total of 118.5 medals, the total team score of 2105.7 points, the total number of medals and team scores ranked third in the country. The Shanghai delegation won all four awards set by the General Administration of Sport of the People's Republic of China at the National Games: the Gold Medal, the Total Score Trophy, the Super World Record Medal and the Sportsmanship Award.

The 11th National Games

It was held in Shandong from October 11 to 28, 2009. Shanghai sent 704 athletes to participate in the finals of 29 major events and 249 minor events, winning a total of 41 gold medals, 34 silver medals and 46.5 bronze medals, with a total of 121.5 medals, a total team score of 2548.25 points, and 1 person broke a world record. The Shanghai delegation won the Sportsmanship Award awarded by the conference, achieving a double harvest of sports achievements and spiritual civilization.

The 12th National Games

It was held in Shenyang, Liaoning Province from August 31 to September 12, 2013. Shanghai sent 728 athletes to participate in the finals of 29 major events and 236 minor events, winning a total of 45 gold medals, 48 silver medals and 36.5 bronze medals, with a total team score of 2460 points (including 6 gold, 9 silver, 4.5 bronze and 318 points in the Olympic games). Athletes won an all-time high in the number of gold medals (42 gold medals), ranked third in the country, ranked fifth in the country in terms of total scores, ranked fourth in the country in terms of comprehensive results, and the Shanghai delegation won the Sportsmanship Award.

The 13th National Games

It was held in Tianjin from August 27 to September 8, 2017. Shanghai sent 748 athletes to participate in the finals of 252 minor events in 31 major events, and won 29 gold medals, 33 silver medals and 24 bronze medals in competitive sports competitions. Among them, two players broke national records. For the first time, 19 major sports events were set up at the National Games, and a total of 180 amateur players in Shanghai ranked in the finals of 18 mass events and three-person basketball mass events, winning 11 gold medals, 11 silver medals and 9 bronze medals in the mass events.
