Official: Manchester City winger Roberts joins Sunderland for a transfer fee of up to £3 million

On January 22, League One club Sunderland officially announced that Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts has signed a six-month contract with the team, and at the end of the 2021/22 season, Sunderland has the option to extend Roberts' contract.

Patrick Roberts, 24, joined Manchester City in 2015, when he was just 18, transferred from Fulham for a transfer fee of €7.2 million.

Roberts was then loaned by Manchester City to Celtic, Girona, Norwich, Middlesbrough, Derby County and Troyes. During his 30 months on loan with the Celtics, Roberts played in 78 games for the team, contributing 18 goals and 26 assists. Roberts has only made three appearances for City's first team in his six and a half seasons with City.

With Roberts and Manchester City's contracts still 6 months left, City found a permanent buyer for Roberts, Sunderland.

Manchester Evening News reporter Simon Bajkowski further revealed more about the transfer, Sunderland paid a symbolic upfront fee to Manchester City, and through the terms added to it, it can be seen that the black cat still values Roberts' potential, and this transfer can receive up to £3 million in transfer fees.
