The story of me and the stamp | Li Shengping: "Guangzhou Liberation Commemoration" stamps promote the liberation of Guangzhou overseas

On October 14, 1949, Guangzhou ushered in the liberation. In order to commemorate the liberation of Guangzhou, the largest city in Southern China, on November 4, 1949, the Traffic Takeover Committee of the Guangzhou Municipal Military Control Commission issued a stamp "Guangzhou Liberation Commemoration".

"This set of stamps is one of the commemorative stamps issued more than a month after the founding of the People's Republic of China, and in addition to being used in large quantities in Guangdong, many stamps are also used in plain letters sent to Hong Kong, Macao and abroad, and many letters are mixed with more than 10 kinds of liberation commemorative stamps across the country, and objectively also publicize the liberation commemorative stamps in other places." Li Shengping, director of the Academic Work Committee of the Guangzhou Philatelic Association, said that the Pearl River Delta region has close ties with Hong Kong and Macao, and some people send letters once a week, so the use of "Guangzhou commemorative stamps" is also very large.

He told reporters that in the 1980s, he had seen the Guangzhou Liberation Commemorative Stamps from the "Philatelic" magazine and the Stamp Catalog of the Liberated Areas of China, but at that time it was not used as a collection object, until the early 21st century, when he turned to collecting Guangzhou-themed philatelic products, he began to collect them one after another, and for several years, the collection materials were not enough to make 1 box of stamp collections.

He said that in recent years, with the support of a postman, he has collected materials that can make 5 boxes of exhibits, so he began to study and group 5 boxes of philatelic collections to participate in the 2020 Guangzhou Municipal Philatelic Exhibition and the "14th Guangdong Philatelic Exhibition in Meizhou 2021 celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China", both of which won gold awards. "Although more than 6 boxes of material have been collected, it is not yet possible to say that it is complete, and we are still collecting the materials needed to supplement and modify the stamp collection."

"The hobby of philately has been with me for more than 40 years." Li Shengping recalled with a smile that he began collecting stamps in 1979, when he was influenced by a Japanese version of the New China Stamp Atlas published by The People's China magazine in Beijing to embark on the amateur philatelic "Road of No Return".
