Dongchuan red land is located in the northeast of Kunming City, because the soil contains more iron and aluminum, it has formed a dazzling crimson color. It is the most concentrated, typical and characteristic area on the Yunnan Laterite Plateau. The blue sky, white clouds and the unpredictable light make up a spectacular view of the Red Land of Dongchuan comparable to the Red Land of Brazil.

From September to December every year, part of the red land is ploughed for cultivation, and the other part of the red land has been planted with green barley or wheat and other crops, and the land is divided into color blocks by fields and crops.
