The largest range of rain and snow "on the line" in the central and eastern regions affects more than 25 provinces

Beijing, 20 Jan (Xinhua) -- The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that from 20 to 24 January, the central and eastern regions of the mainland will experience the largest range of rain and snow weather processes this year, affecting more than 25 provinces. There is heavy snow and localized heavy snow in many parts of the north, and heavy rain and localized heavy rain in parts of the south. From the 25th to the 27th, there will be a new round of rain and snow.

In the coming week, the central and eastern parts of the mainland will usher in two large-scale rain and snow processes in succession. From the 20th to the 24th, the rain and snow dividing line is roughly located in the south of Huanghuai (or southern Henan and southeastErn Shandong); from the 25th to the 27th, the rain and snow dividing line will be pressed south. Affected by two rounds of rain and snow, the cumulative number of snowfall days in some parts of Shaanxi, Henan and northwest Hubei will reach more than 5 days; in the south, especially from Guangxi to Jiangnan, it will be a state of continuous rainfall, such as Guiyang, Changsha and other places, and the cumulative number of rainy days will also reach 5 days or more.

"These two rounds of rain and snow processes have the characteristics of wide range of influence and long precipitation time," said Ma Xueqian, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory, saying that because the forces of the cold and heating currents are equal and the interaction time is long, compared with the general process rain and snow, the two rounds of rain and snow weather last longer.

Specifically, in the next few days, there will be small to moderate snow or sleet on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, northwest China, north China, Huanghuai, and western Hubei, and heavy snowfall and local snowfall in eastern Shaanxi, southern Shanxi, southern Hebei, Henan, western Shanxi, and the mountainous areas along southern Tibet. There is light to moderate rain in the southwest region, Jianghuai, Jianghan, Jiangnan, South China and other places, and there is heavy rain and localized heavy rain in parts of eastern Guizhou, south-central Hunan, central Jiangxi, northern and eastern Guangxi, northern Guangdong, and northern Fujian.

Affected by rain and snow weather and other factors, the temperature in the central and eastern regions will drop, but the cooling is mainly reflected in the maximum temperature, and the minimum temperature will rise slightly at night due to cloud cover, and the temperature difference between day and night will be significantly reduced. It is expected that after the 25th, the temperature in many places will further drop.

Ma Xueqian said that it is the Spring Festival, and attention should be paid to preventing the adverse impact of wet and slippery roads and low visibility on traffic travel in the morning and evening. At the same time, the gas feeling on rainy and snowy days is relatively wet and cold, and the public should pay attention to cold protection and warmth.
