After the founding of New China, Wang Xiaotang finally followed her deep wishes to join the army, during which several quarrels broke out with her parents and family, because they did not agree to Wang Xiaotang's enlistment, fearing that she would have a bad time when she went out alone. In 1952, she was successfully admitted to the People's Liberation Army General Political Affairs Cultural and Labor Troupe to perform Peking Opera. Wang Xiaotang, who has loved and studied Peking Opera since childhood, knows that the perfect stage performance must be accompanied by years of hard training, so she also gave herself additional training while completing the training task of the troops.

Wang Xiaotang, who practiced earnestly in the snow, could not jump out of a single fault in his body, platform, shape, and table, coupled with his unusual beauty, he was quickly valued by foresters.
Director Lin Nong was preparing to make the movie "The Mysterious Traveling Companion", but he never found the heroine he liked. After seeing Wang Xiaotang, he resolutely issued an invitation to her, and Wang Xiaotang ushered in the first movie in his life.
After her official debut from the big screen, Wang Xiaotang was transferred to the Bayi Film Studio in 1958, she firmly grasped every opportunity handed in her hand, carefully polished each role, and successfully played a pair of twin sisters with different personalities in the next classic movie "Wildfire Spring Wind Fighting Ancient City".

In 1988, Wang Xiaotang was appointed deputy director of bayi Studios and was awarded the rank of colonel.
In 1992, she officially took over the Bayi Studio, under her management, the factory developed better and better, not only developed and produced many classic works in succession, successfully turned losses into profits and greatly improved the efficiency of the factory, but also cultivated a batch of outstanding talents for the mainland film industry.
