China responded whether it would provide military assistance to Kazakhstan

BEIJING, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian responded on 20 January to whether China will provide military assistance to Kazakhstan. He said that the Chinese side is maintaining close communication with the Kazakh side and will provide assistance within its capacity according to the wishes of the Kazakh side. As long as it is conducive to the restoration of tranquility, economic development and improvement of people's livelihood by kazakhstan, china will hold a positive attitude.

Asked by a reporter, Kazakhstan said that in response to the recent riots, some countries, including China, are willing to provide assistance. However, apart from the CSTO, Kazakhstan has no legal basis for accepting military assistance from other countries.

Zhao Lijian said that China and Kazakhstan are each other's friendly neighbors and permanent comprehensive strategic partners.
