Practicing medicine in poverty, twice borrowing housing to live
In August 1963, 18-year-old Wang Jiahu, with the original intention of curing diseases and saving people, studied traditional Chinese medicine with his master and followed his master to treat diseases and save people. From August 1966 to January 1968, he was selected to study at the Ganxian Health School. In February 1968, he returned to the village to work as a barefoot doctor. For 53 years, no matter day and night, cold and heat, no matter how far or near the road is or flat and steep, as long as the villagers call him to see a doctor, he is always on call. In order to let the sick villagers get treatment, Wangjiahu broke 15 medicine boxes, rode 3 bicycles and 4 motorcycles, and walked through the landscapes and rivers of Chengzhi Village and surrounding villages.
Local villagers generally reported that he did not charge for medical treatment, did not urge medical expenses, and did not expect others to return. Wang Gengxiang, a 63-year-old villager in Chengyuan Village, said: "Dr. Wang has good medical skills, good service and cheapness, and villagers from more than 10 neighboring villages such as Tiannan Village, Helong Village, Qiaoxi Village and Liyuan Village have come to him for medical treatment." Wang Jiahu's wife, Xu Liangying, a 51-year-old communist party member, said: "I concentrate on doing good housework and farm work, and he concentrates on treating diseases and saving people." We and my husband and wife did something useful to the villagers, and we couldn't try to reciprocate. "All along, the Wangjiahu family lives in an adobe house of only more than 30 square meters, and the residence of the whole family of six has become an urgent problem to be solved." In August 1974, Wangjiahu and his wife had to borrow a 60-square-meter adobe house from the production brigade. In September 1980, Wangjiahu and his wife bought the house for only 120 yuan. In November 2015, the adobe house where the Wangjiahu family lived became a dangerous old house and was demolished. At this time, Wang Jiahu and his wife could not rebuild the house, so the couple had to live in the home of their nephew Wang Jingbin. In February 2019, the two sons couldn't stand it anymore and each invested 200,000 yuan to support their parents to build the two-and-a-half-story building they now live in.

Small prescriptions to treat diseases, only prescribed for one day of medicine
From March 18 to July 3, 2021, Wangjiahu treated patients a total of 39 times and issued 39 prescriptions, with a total amount of 2233.03 yuan, an average of 57.257 yuan per prescription, the highest price was 95 yuan, and the lowest was 47 yuan. Li Xiugao, a 71-year-old villager from Chengqi Village, said: "He has good medical skills and good service attitude. When I asked him for a doctor, he wouldn't ask us for money. For those who don't have the money to see a doctor, keep an account first, but he never collects the account. In December 2019, I was helping others cut down trees in the mountains, and I was chainsawed and injured my left lower limb, and I was sent to the Ganxian District People's Hospital for rescue. Later, I went to Dr. Wangjiahu for rehabilitation, showed me more than a week of illness, and only received more than 80 yuan. During the Spring Festival this year, I returned the medical expenses to him. Wang Yulan, a 55-year-old villager in Chengqi Village, said: "My family of six has been looking for medical treatment in Wangjiahu for decades, and he sees a doctor one day to see a doctor, and only prescribes medicine for one day." He often told us that today's condition is different from tomorrow's, and after taking a day's medicine, he will come back to see a doctor. He treated diseases very cheaply and economically, and never let us take more medicine or waste medicine. ”

Treat first and pay later, and those who can't afford it are not charged
Wang Jiahu has a habit of treating people: whenever he is looking for medical treatment, he is always on call, first sees a doctor and then pays, and does not urge patients to pay for medical expenses. For 53 years, Wang Jiahu and his wife have never taken stock of the arrears of medical bills, and the bills that have been owed for a long time have been burned. For those farmers who can't afford to see a doctor for a while, only keep accounts and do not collect fees. In 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2019, she and her mother both went to Wangjiahu for medical treatment 13 times, accumulatively owed 1584.6 yuan in medical expenses, and have not yet settled the bill, but Wangjiahu and his wife have never asked their mother and daughter for help. For those villagers who are really poor and unable to pay for medical expenses, he only treats the sick and saves people, keeps the prescription for treatment, and does not charge or charge.
Wang Yimin, a retired veteran of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, deputy chief physician of traditional Chinese medicine, once served as vice president of Ganxian People's Hospital and deputy director of the Ganxian Health Bureau, 91 years old, he said: "Wangjiahu has been practicing medicine for more than 50 years, practicing his vow to learn to heal and save people, keeping his original intention of practicing medicine in poverty, although he has healed thousands of villagers, he has never had medical disputes and medical accidents. ”
