Harbin, 20 Jan (Xinhua) -- As night falls, in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China's "ice city," the Ice And Snow World Park in Harbin, on the north bank of the Songhua River, the ice sculpture building of the Pyramid of Kukulkan in Mexico, is full of light, attracting tourists to stop and watch.
On January 19, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Harbin Municipal Government and the Mexican Embassy in China witnessed the official completion of the ice sculpture building through a tripartite video link. This is the beginning of a series of activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mexico.

The 23rd Harbin Ice and Snow World has the theme of "The Light of the Winter Olympics Shines in the World". The kukulcan pyramid ice sculpture building in the west of the park is a miniature version of the Pyramid of Kukulcan, a representative monument in Mexico, covering an area of 440 square meters, 9.5 meters high, 20.9 meters in length and width, and 1100 cubic meters of ice for a single body. At the end of December 2021, it took more than 500 ice sculpture builders 7 days to complete it.
Cheng Xiaoming, member of the Standing Committee of the Harbin Municipal Party Committee and vice mayor, said in his speech that the ice sculpture of the Kukulkan Pyramid was completed in Harbin, realizing the perfect integration of the mayan civilization with a long history and the Innovative Chinese ice and snow culture in Harbin. Harbin Is willing to take this ice and snow cooperation as the beginning and strive to carry out exchanges and cooperation with various regions in Mexico in the fields of economy and trade, science and technology, agriculture, culture and education, tourism and sports, so as to effectively inherit the friendship between China and Mexico and promote people-to-people ties.

Mexico's ambassador to China, Syyad, said in his speech that the completion of the ice sculpture of the Pyramid of Kukulcan in Harbin shows the power of friendship and cooperation, and the frequent exchanges and mutual visits between the people of Mexico and China will surely further deepen the friendship between the two countries and enhance mutual understanding, and the ties between the governments and peoples of Mexico and China will be closer.
"I'm particularly interested in Mexican culture, and I've seen photos of the Pyramid of Kukulcan online, and I was pleasantly surprised to see this ice sculpture in the Ice World. It restores the appearance and architectural features of the original building. Cui Jiaming, a 17-year-old tourist, said.
In January 2021, the Mexican Embassy in China proposed to build a Mexican-themed ice sculpture building in Harbin Ice and Snow World, which received a positive response from the Harbin Municipal Government. The construction of the ice sculpture of the Pyramid of Kukulcan was also supported by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of China and Mexico and authorized by the National Institute of Anthropology and History of the Ministry of Culture of Mexico.
