Margaret Chan became the first Chinese citizen to hold the post in the 58 years since the founding of the World Health Organization. It was the ninth year of Hong Kong's handover.
Margaret Chan's term of office was five and a half years, from 4 January 2007 to 30 June 2012, a term of more than half a year than the previous Director-General.
In other words, she was re-elected for a second term of six months.
Her annual salary at the time was $217,945.
