Dingyao kiln is one of the five famous kilns of the Song Dynasty in China, and the kiln site is in Jianci Village and Dongxi Yanshan Village in Quyang County, Hebei Province. Because Quyang was under the jurisdiction of Dingzhou in ancient times, it was called Dingyao. Created in the Tang Dynasty, flourished in the Northern Song Dynasty, and declined in the Yuan Dynasty, it is a porcelain kiln system with far-reaching influence in northern China. Famous for the production of white porcelain, it was once used as a royal item by the tribute court. Most of the kiln products are wine utensils, tea sets, bedding, etc. for daily use, mainly for the production of folk porcelain.

Fixed kiln porcelain decoration process

White glaze decoration is mainly carved, scratched and printed, as well as white glazed flowers and gold color depictions. Most of the porcelain kilns in the north and south of the carved flower decoration were used, which was the main decorative method of porcelain in the early Song Dynasty. In the early Northern Song Dynasty, the Ding kiln first absorbed the relief technique of the Yue kiln. The theme of kiln printing is the most common in various flowers, animals, birds, water waves, fish patterns, etc. There are also a certain number, and baby play patterns are relatively rare. The floral pattern is followed by peonies, lotuses and chrysanthemums. The layout adopts methods such as winding branches, turning branches, and folding branches, emphasizing symmetry.

Tips for identifying porcelain in the kiln

Jade texture. Song Dynasty porcelain pursues jade, and those with jade texture are the best products, especially porcelain fired by the court, which must be fired with jade texture.

The glaze color should be like ivory. Five generations later, the kiln has no makeup soil, and the glaze applied white glaze is white and yellow, so the color of the glaze is the so-called ivory white. Because the imitation cannot grasp the specific firing atmosphere of the kiln porcelain, it is difficult to burn the ivory glaze color.

The tread has bamboo brush marks. In the tire making process, when the tire is semi-dry, the bamboo brush is used to rotate this process, so there will be some bamboo brush marks on the tread.

The glaze has wax tear marks. This "tear stain" is caused by uneven glazing and the drooping of glaze water when it is fired. This phenomenon appears on the outside of the bowl, not all of them have, but they cannot be imitated.
