Later, Sima Shi died suddenly at Xuchang, and Zhong Hui advised Sima Zhao to crush the Wei emperor Cao Xian's plan to regain Sima Shi's military power. The imperial court had no choice but to worship Sima Zhao as a general and assistant to the government, and Zhong Hui as a waiter at the Yellow Gate.

Later, Zhuge Zhi rebelled, the Eastern Wu army came to the rescue, Zhong Hui designed, secretly wrote letters for Quan Hui and Quan Yi, and used the life of his family to divide the relationship between Quan Yi and wu Guo, so Quan Yi and others were afraid in their hearts, Kaesong surrendered, and Zhuge Shi began to turn his heart away. Because of Zhong Hui's ability to make suggestions, he became more and more favored by Sima Zhao, and people at the time compared him to Zhang Liang, a strategist of the Western Han Dynasty.

During the JingYuan Dynasty, Sima Zhao wanted to send a large army to cut down Shu, but all the courtiers were unable to do so, but Zhong Hui said that Shu Han could take it. Therefore, he planned a strategy with Sima Zhao in advance, surveyed the terrain, and discussed the situation. Four years later, the State of Wei raised an army to attack Shu Han, and Deng Ai, Zhuge Xu, and Zhong Hui's troops marched in three separate routes. Zhong Hui and Jiang Wei confronted each other at the Sword Pavilion, Deng Ai led his troops to Chengdu, Liu Chan led the crowd to surrender, and Shu Han was officially destroyed. Liu Chan sent people to order Jiang Wei to surrender to Zhong Hui.

Therefore, at this time, in Shudi, he was the only one, and the credit for destroying Shu also fell to him alone. After joining forces with the surrendered Jiang Wei, Zhong Hui planned to use the Shu state as a position to attack the state of Wei in reverse, imprisoning the officials of the state of Wei who were on the expedition with the army, and pretending to have the empress dowager's will to attack Sima Zhao. Unexpectedly, the relatives of these officials united and launched a mutiny, and Zhong Hui and Jiang Wei both died in it.
