Uk CPI rose 5.4% year-on-year in December

London, January 19 (Xinhua) -- Data released by the British National Bureau of Statistics on the 19th showed that the Uk's consumer price index (CPI) rose 5.4% year-on-year in December 2021, the highest in nearly 30 years.

The data shows that the main factors driving inflation include rising prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, catering and hotel accommodation, furniture and household goods, clothing and footwear.

Grant Fitzner, chief economist at the Office for National Statistics, said petrol prices, which remained high but stabilized, had eased the overall price increase somewhat. Last month's new round of restrictions triggered by covid-19 had an impact on the economy, but overall it had little impact on core inflation indicators.
