Obviously, not at all. No, the Batllo House that Master Kengo Kuma personally transformed not long ago, once exposed, it was beyond people's imagination!
164,000 meters long curtains
The "light mesh" of the penetration time
Gaudí built the Casa Batlló for the aristocrat Josep Batlló in 1904, the silhouette of the building seems to be made of bones, the façade color draws on natural coral colors, the mysterious and brilliant shape beat time, and many years later, the Casa Batlló is still small and vibrant, it "ignores" all design ideas, proudly immersed in its own 20th century.
At present, the Casa Batllo has been completely restored by the current head of the household, the Bernat family, and Kengo Kuma Studio has taken over its subsequent renovation, injecting new aesthetic power into the space and continuing to write the space poem.
Kengo Kuma homages the unique light inside the space using a 164,000-meter-long aluminium chain that pays homage to the unique light inside the space, each of which comes from kriskadecor, a famous Spanish home accessory brand, whose length and width are precisely defined by computer professional software.
As people walk through the atrium, the new staircase on the first floor, and the emergency staircase that spans all floors, they feel the curtains wrapped around them.
One of the stairs leading to the basement is made of 13 tons of polished black marble, in keeping with Gaudí's design.
The curtains present the ultimate in softness, and the clear and delicate texture resembles animal scales, subtly concealing its solid material.
They follow the light gentlely in space, leaving traces wherever they go, laying down a delicate "light-catching net", in which the light collides and explodes, producing a chemical reaction of light and dark interweaving, and the wavy pattern of the curtains also seems to obtain energy, gradually undulating gently.
Standing on the stairs and looking up at the curtain at the top, the "scales" that are spliced together are blurred one by one, like a blooming flower. And the surrounding ethereal also "erases" the inherent shape of the staircase, and people naturally rise and fall, pursuing infinity and eternity in the space of light.
Due to the dim location of the emergency staircase, in order to perfectly show the effect of the aluminum chain curtains, the lighting equipment developed by designer Mario Nanni is used here, and the fusion of light and metal produces a sparkling chemical reaction, once again weaving the encounter between light and space.

Goodbye Gaudí in a sense of technology
In addition to the spectacular update of the curtains, the studio has created a new basement in the building to accommodate 2,000 square meters of exhibition space. Audiovisual producer Miguel Alonso created a dome with 1,000 screens showing films about the architect.
In addition, Turkish media artist Refik Anadol created a cube installation in the space that showcases images and data about Gaudí. They are also part of the "10D Experience" entertainment program in the building.
Foam luminaires
Awakening the "new visitor" of the space
The Casa Batlló was temporarily closed during the coronavirus, and local designer Max Enrich was invited to design a series of sculptural luminaires for the interior during this time.
The main material of the luminaires is interior foam, which is cut, engraved and finally glued into a highly iconic geometric totem, which is reminiscent of the instructive copying markers in the art class.
LED emitters are integrated into the top of each design at the top of the lamp, and the wires are embedded in the center of the structure, and all the lights are projected upwards, leading people to one of the biggest highlights of the house - the curved roof.
These luminaires are artistically artistic and simple, which contrasts strongly with the beauty of the space itself. They stand in all corners, and monochromatic tones such as light blue, light pink, and mint green carry a kind of vitality and comfort from the new century, and appear on the walls and floors with their own time filters.
The luminaires are both foils and displays, they do not cover the original personality of the building, and at the same time can produce a fantastic visual contrast.
In The Casa Batlló, renovation is no longer the theme of designers, from "adding furniture" to "installing curtains", we see more respect and continuation of Gaudí's design than the renovation of the original space. The current Casa Batlló, perhaps closer to Gaudí's vision, has steadily walked across the bridge of time, gained the ability to freeze light, and has become Gaudí's "autobiography" under the blessing of science and technology, which can be regarded as the strongest linkage of designers of different eras.
