These 8 things are something to learn when you first get into Wing Chun

author:Wing Chun Kung Fu

"Yesterday I talked about Wing Chun fighting strategies, and today I will talk about the knowledge I need to learn when I first came into contact with Wing Chun, as well as my personal experience and insights."

1. There are usually two forms of knocking down an opponent:

The first is to "sit on the horse and rotate the waist" to use the rotation action of the body to break out the power of the horse to hit the opponent. It's like a hook punch in boxing (Tyson likes to use this);

The second is the Japanese character punch in Wing Chun, the upper horse step (standard horse punch), using the upper step to sink the horse and the force point to hit the opponent. These are the 2 punching methods that are very practical on the basis of the human body structure.

In addition, the flat fist in karate is also good, but the strength of the flat fist comes from the shoulder, and if it reaches a high level, the strength will come from the hip. At the beginning of karate, the arm must be straightened, and then the master level, the elbow will be lowered a little, and the strength will come from the hip, but in Wing Chun's fist, the elbow is the focus point (sinking elbow), followed by the hip, and then the back support leg, the strength comes from the ground.

2. Advantages of Straight Punch:

Keywords Easy to power, faster, any angle, slightly curved

In fighting, straight fist is the easiest to force, because the explosive force is strong, so the damage of straight fist is penetrated, straight fist is easier to hurt the opponent, such as taking a stick to the side of your head or stabbing your head which is more likely to hurt the most?

Straight punches are faster because the route is the shortest, walking in a straight line makes the distance between you and your opponent the shortest, and if we aim at the same place at many angles, the straight line has the fastest time to reach this place.

Straight punches may not be exactly straight lines in a fight. People think that straight punches are always straight, then you're wrong, in serious fighting, straight punches sometimes have a slight arc.

Why is the wrist rotated after a straight punch in the little thought? Because straight lines can punch from any angle, otherwise why would we rotate our wrists to various angles, this is to prepare you for playing in all directions.

So in fighting, we don't just punch in a straight line, we can also punch with a slight arc and make a slight change. Basically, the straight fist is straight, but at different times, the straight fist is slightly curved, and sometimes even completely arced.

3. The fist has 2 corners: yang fist and yin fist (the index finger and middle finger form yang, and the ring finger and little finger form yin). Karate and taekwondo often use Yang Fist. But yin fist is more powerful than yang fist.

In addition, the whole fist has 3 corners: refers to the three attack angles of the fist, one is the attack contact of the fist surface, the second is the attack contact of the back of the fist, and the third is the attack contact of the fist root, and the attack method is straight and arc respectively.

4. The outbreak of "strength" in the punch: On the basis of turning the horse, entering the horse, and marking the horse, the overall strength can already be exploded, but how to safely use the explosive force in the punch?

Explosive power to withstand all rely on the wrist, if you are a master, you must have a very good wrist, have a good wrist, first of all, it is easy to knock the opponent down, followed by easy to crack the opponent's grappling, when the opponent takes your hand, you start to rotate, very easy to rotate and break free. Good wrists are good for you to take all kinds of weapons (sticks, daggers, knives) Large heavy weapons must rely on the wrist, so the wrist is very important, to protect well.

5. Attack and defense of both hands: forehand, backhand, attack and protection. The back fist is more powerful. Most of the KO are backhands, but of course there are also very professional people who can do the forehands. The forehand is first to interfere with the opponent and prevent the action of attacking you, or to chase, turn around, intercept, and then to be closest to the opponent, so you can hit him first, and then cut into the opponent's space so that it tries to chase your hand, then you have the opportunity to hit him with the second action; the front hand is withdrawn, and the back hand strikes (the front hand becomes a handguard or auxiliary hand).

Backhand punch is strength: the easiest way to see blood, it's easier to knock down the opponent, make the opponent feel afraid, follow the forehand to play. Why is the back fist more powerful than the front fist? The strength comes from the hind legs, close to one's body, and mainly the larger range of the waist, in short, due to the horse step structure.

The current hand fist becomes the back fist, and the standing posture needs to be changed (left and right frame change). The forehand can be attacked or defended, and the front and rear hands are interchangeable.

How to make the back fist powerful: Turn the waist crotch during the movement, sit on the horse and then push the body forward with the hind legs down, the shoulder helps the force burst out, the body is located in the forward position, focusing on the point or angle of your fist. The destructive power of permeability not only hurts externally, but also causes internal injuries.

6. Offensive hand and assist hand: Wing Chun stall hand is the attack hand, but also the main hand, the assist hand is the hand, the arm hand, so can not be placed in front, otherwise you will be beaten, because the hand and the hand are the helper, so when you need the helper, you will use the assist hand. The spreader is an attacking hand, which can transform fists and palms to attack the opponent, so we put the spread hand in front of the fight, and will not put the arm hand and the ambush hand in the front, which is the difference.

There are 7 uses of forehand punch: interfering with the opponent, trapping the opponent, assisting, hitting with a continuous elimination, attacking instead of defending (defusing the pressure of defense with an attack), chasing, and hitting weak points.

In these 7 points there are 3 opportunities for the forehand to use:

The first is the door in the hand;

The second is that the forehand is very close to the key point, and the blow is critical;

The third is that I am too strong and the opponent is too weak, I can beat him at will, don't waste time, and solve him immediately.

7. Wing Chun's Power:

(1) hips and legs;

(2) Wrists, hips, legs together;

(3) Shoulders and hind legs plus rotating hips and waist crotch;

(4) (Mind) Concentration, use the brain to imagine the power on the fist (only the fist is clenched at the moment of contact with the target, the arm and shoulder are relaxed), just like taking a knife into the opponent's body, it will be very powerful.

(5) After the first blow, the second and third punches must be followed until the opponent is defeated.

8. Punches are prone to make mistakes: the distance is too far, too close, the punch is not returned to the original position, the hand is too low, the spirit is lax, too impatient, the action is reckless, and the breathing cannot keep up with the rhythm of the fight.

In a fight, breathing, moving, distance, thinking, and control are all influenced by intelligence, and if you are a high-level person, your breathing and movements are synchronized, and you can rest, move, calm, and explode at any time you want. These are the things you have to remember, and they're very important.

Playing well first is experience, the second is wisdom, playing more has experience, experience is to find where the mistakes are, where there are problems, constantly from the failures and lessons to think, reflect, how not to be hit again.

The problem that most people do not pay attention to is "concentration", concentration will make you use your mind calmly, concentration can help you pay attention to the goal, get rid of all the distractions that delay your thinking, spiritual interference.

Humans are much more powerful than they seem, but they just don't know (not confident enough), just like a mother can flip a car over and rescue her child.

You have to know how to get experience, if you need many years to understand the experience yourself, now I will help you to master it in 2 months.

Next, I would like to talk about my own personal experience and insights:

1, learn to accept: to learn a boxing technique, you must first learn to accept it, to have an accepting mentality, your psychology and body will accept it, and it is naturally possible to learn and practice well.

2. Learn to be beaten: Wing Chun practice is regular. When practicing unevenly, there will be defensive omissions, will encounter one or two times, this is very normal, in my early days of learning boxing, being beaten will feel very wronged, and then being beaten more naturally there is nothing, and then it hurts for a while, it has not touched the heart, and I am not afraid of being beaten to have the courage to beat people! The process of being beaten is the process of exercising a strong psychology, which is a very rare wealth. Being beaten more naturally knows how to think about how not to be beaten.

3, do not rush to achieve, go with the flow: I have taught many, many students, most of them the first question is: "Coach, how long can I learn?" Finished? How long can you fight, how long can you be as powerful as Ip Man and Bruce Lee? Wait and so on and other questions, in fact, this question is difficult for me to answer, any teacher who is responsible for you does not dare to easily tell you how long you can do, because the variables are in yourself, not in the coach, the coach's system is there, the speed of learning, how much understanding, the degree of effort, the amount of energy and time invested, are all determined by you, these are within your own control, how can the coach guarantee everything about you? The so-called "Master leads into the door, and practices in the individual." ”

In fact, as long as you are training, you are progressing, progress is natural, you must give your body and mind a process of presentation of results, like a tree outside the window, you see it every day does not see its strengths, but as long as it is alive it will increase day by day.

For example, my own personal experience, I used to play sandbags every day, the weight of the sandbags was more than 90 kilograms, at the beginning of the sandbags did not move, the hands could not stand it, and then I often hit, I do not know how long it has been, I just remember from wearing thick clothes to thin clothes, and then when thick clothes are worn again, you can punch the sandbags out of a pit, hit the wall, and make a loud bang.

These 8 things are something to learn when you first get into Wing Chun

If you have to give a time, it usually looks like this:

If the whole system is completed, such as teenagers and adults with normal mental health, at least 2 to 3 classes a week, practice every day, so that 3 to 5 years may be a little effective, but after learning the first 4 parts, it is basically enough. (Children will last longer)

According to the difficulty of each part, the amount of content, the time and energy required are different, each person's ability to accept, investment time is also different, this time is for reference only.
