During the agricultural leisure season, the fields in Kangle County are a little less lively, but the clinic in Taguan Village, Suji Town, is full of people, and the masses who come to see a doctor are endless.

"Recently, the temperature has plummeted, and many people have caught colds, and many villagers have come to buy injections and medicines." After patiently and meticulously explaining to the villagers how to take the medicine and the precautions, Xu Guojun, a village doctor in Taguan Village, was busy sorting out the drug shelves and registering the villagers' health information.

Listening to heart rhythm, measuring blood pressure, injecting, prescribing drugs, visiting the home, going to the emergency room in the middle of the night... Since taking over the "baton" of the village doctor in Taguan Village from his father in 2008, Xu Guojun has been working in this position for 13 years.

Over the years, the medical and health undertakings in our province have developed rapidly, from his father's "one needle, one grass" to treat diseases and save people, to the completion of standardized village-level clinics, Xu Guojun has witnessed a significant improvement in rural medical and health conditions. Now, following in his father's footsteps, he inherits his father's unfinished business, day after day, year after year, guarding the health and life safety of the masses in the depths of the mountains.

Take root in mountainous areas and protect the health and safety of the masses

Speaking of Dr. Xu, the masses in Taguan Village and the surrounding villages know it. Everyone not only gave Xu Guojun a thumbs up, but also praised his father Xu Zhaoqian.

In 1968, Xu Zhaoqian participated in the training class for barefoot doctors held in the county. In his opinion at that time, it was a proud thing to be able to cure the disease and save people. "I like the profession of doctor, so I worked hard when I went to school, and I cherished that learning opportunity." Xu Zhaoqian recalled.

A year later, Xu Zhaoqian became a "half-farmer, half-doctor" village doctor in his hometown of Taguan Village. Since then, no matter whether it is windy or rainy, day or night, as long as the villagers greet him, he is always the first to carry the medical kit to the clinic, in addition to seeing more than 5,000 villagers in the village and surrounding villages, he also undertakes the work of immunization planning and maternal and child health care.

In the 1970s, many villages and towns in Kangle County did not even have decent roads, and the only means of transportation was to use their feet. Although he spent all day on the dusty village road, Xu Zhaoqian felt that what he had done was very meaningful. A few years later, whose old man got sick, whose daughter-in-law gave birth to a child, whose doll had a cold and fever... He knows the health of every villager.

"At that time, there were few Western medicines, the price was high, and I couldn't afford to buy them, but there were many herbs in the mountains, so I often picked some herbs and ran around on my back." Xu Zhaoqian clearly remembers that at that time, the medicine box only contained gauze, tape and some simple medicines. "We have learned Chinese medicine and acupuncture in school, and many times we only rely on 'one needle, one handful of grass'."

In the mid-1970s, a clinic was built in Taguan Village. In an adobe house of less than 20 square meters, simple diagnostic and treatment equipment such as a square table, a bench, a wooden board consultation bed and a stethoscope are all the belongings of the health room.

"Later, the conditions slowly improved, and the villagers could not only come to the health room for injections and infusions, but also some cheaper Western medicines that everyone could afford." Xu Zhaoqian said that at that time, there were only more than 20 kinds of common drugs in the village clinic, and the cost of diagnosis and treatment for the masses to see a disease was 5 cents, and it cost up to 2 yuan to see a good disease.

Rural doctors, as the "bottom of the net" of the national medical and health system, have played an irreplaceable role in the construction of grass-roots health for many years. At that time, the medical security system was not perfect, and rural doctors solved the problem of most rural people seeing a doctor.

In 2008, Xu Zhaoqian, who had been in the village doctor position for 39 years, stepped down, and his son Xu Guojun inherited his father's half-life work and became the second generation of village doctors in Taguan Village.

More than 50 years have passed, and the spirited Dr. Xu has become Grandpa Xu. Walking in the village, when the villagers see Xu Zhaoqian, they will always hand over a cigarette and greet him warmly. He smiled and said, "Many villagers have been treated by me for four generations in a family. Now, it's my son's turn to stand on this shift for me..."

The Son inherits the father's business and goes where the masses need it most

In Xu Guojun's impression, his father Xu Zhaoqian has been busy treating people. He also clearly remembered that in countless dark nights, whenever someone came to his father's door, his father immediately got dressed and hurriedly lifted the red cowhide medicine box out of the house for treatment.

"When I was a child, my family was poor and had few decent things, the most common of which were my father's medical-related books." Xu Guojun recalled that his father was a person who loved to read, as long as he was idle, he was reading books, Western medicine, Traditional Chinese medicine are all looking, learning, occasionally encountering a difficult disease, but also in the books to find a solution. "When Dad was happiest, he cured another patient, especially a person with a rare disease, and he could be happy for a long time."

His father's words and deeds made Xu Guojun see in his eyes and remember in his heart. "At that time, there was no TV at home, let alone mobile phones and computers, and my brother and I had nothing to do after school, so we followed my father to read those medical books." In this way, Xu Guojun gradually fell in love with medicine and was determined to become the same person as his father.

In 1991, Xu Guojun, who graduated from high school, did not hesitate to choose to study medicine. After graduating from Linxia Health School, he finally became a doctor at the Minglu Township Health Center in Kangle County.

What Xu Guojun remembers is that one evening in 1995, an old man anxiously ran into the Minglu Township Health Center to look for a doctor, and Xu Guojun, who was on duty, inquired and learned that the old man's granddaughter had a serious cold and was bedridden at home with a high fever.

"A child's fever is no small matter, and delay can have serious consequences." After a brief exchange with the old man, Xu Guojun immediately put down his work and walked with the old man to his home three kilometers away. The emergency treatment was carried out until late at night, and the child's condition finally improved.

"The next morning, the child's high fever had completely receded, and the old man took my hand and kept thanking me, and then led the mule on foot to send me back to the town." This past not only made Xu Guojun have a sense of professional pride, but also made him have new thinking about the future. "For the first time, I really felt that it was so difficult for the people in the mountainous areas to see a doctor, and I also had the idea of becoming a village doctor."

After continuous efforts, in 2007, Xu Guojun returned to the Taguan Village Clinic and stayed in the village with his father to provide convenience for the masses in the depths of the mountains to seek medical treatment and solve everyone's medical needs as much as possible. Under the leadership of his father, in less than two years, Xu Guojun has traveled to 772 households in the village, and has made detailed combing and recording the health status of key groups with hypertension, diabetes, severe mental illness and other key groups.

"My father gave me not only a job, but a heavy responsibility." Xu Guojun said, "Now that the medical conditions are better, I want to do a better job in this position and pass on the cause that my father loved all his life." ”

Continuous efforts to contribute to the cause of primary health

Medicine is a service-oriented discipline that is constantly learning and accumulating. In his spare time, Xu Guojun attaches great importance to absorbing new knowledge and accumulating good experience, so as to continuously improve the level of diagnosis and treatment. Over the past ten years, his diagnosis and treatment techniques in the fields of internal medicine, pediatrics, traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture have been widely recognized by the local and surrounding people.

Tian Yinglan is a native of Yangtai Village, Kangfeng Township, and over the years, her family has a headache and brain fever, and she has brought it to the Taguan Village Clinic. "For many years, our whole family has been seeing Dr. Xu here, and the medicines he prescribes are cheap and effective, and we can trust his skills."

In the eyes of Zhao Hui, a villager in Taguan Village, Xu Guojun is an introvert. "Dr. Xu usually doesn't talk much, but when it comes to his profession, he always talks endlessly, and in the face of patients' doubts, he also patiently and meticulously answers."

Years of perseverance have earned the support and trust of the villagers. Speaking of Xu Guojun, Ma Zongyuan, secretary of the party branch of Taguan Village, was full of praise. "Dr. Xu always has the masses in his heart, and the villagers will come to him wherever they are uncomfortable, and now they have basically achieved a small illness and not leaving the village."

In Xu Guojun's view, the sense of access and happiness of the masses to seek medical treatment has been continuously enhanced, not only because of their continuous efforts in the post of village doctor, but also because of the continuous improvement of the level of grass-roots medical services in our province. He said: "Compared with our parents, we have caught up with the good times, and the improvement of primary medical conditions has allowed the people in the mountainous areas to enjoy tangible benefits." ”

In recent years, the capital construction of grass-roots medical and health services in our province has entered the fast lane, and the rural areas have gradually established a medical and health service system throughout urban and rural areas, further weaving the bottom of the grass-roots medical network, and effectively promoting the continuous improvement of the people's health level.

At present, the Taguan Village Clinic has a total of more than 60 square meters, diagnostic rooms, treatment rooms, pharmacies, public health rooms, duty rooms and other functional areas are readily available, there are sphygmomanometers, blood glucose meters, intermediate frequency treatment instruments and other diagnostic and treatment equipment, and 166 kinds of drugs are equipped, which greatly facilitates the masses to seek medical treatment nearby.

After the targeted poverty alleviation work was carried out, Xu Guojun was busier and undertook the health management of 3225 people in the village. Open the health cloud platform of the village clinic computer, and the health information of the villagers is clearly presented in front of the eyes. "Here are the health files of everyone, and I will upload the health status of everyone at any time and monitor them regularly, which is much more convenient than in the past." He said.

The masses are living well, and the demand for medical and health care is also increasing. Therefore, the main work content of Xu Guojun has also changed. He introduced that not only to see the villagers, but also to shoulder the responsibility of regular inspections for the special hardship dependent households, the application of chronic disease cards for the elderly, and the vaccination of children.

"Seeing everyone live healthily is my happiest moment. I want to make efforts to make it no longer a problem for people in mountainous areas to see a doctor. Xu Guojun snapped his fingers and calculated that his father and himself had been holding out in Taguan Village for 52 years. He said that he should follow the path of grass-roots health to the end until it cannot be done.
