In the Zhenshun Gate of jiao'er in the northeast of the Forbidden City, there is a Jingqi Pavilion. At the north end of Jingqi Pavilion, there is a separate small courtyard called the Three Institutes in the Northeast. And this is the so-called Cold Palace, and the Zhen Concubine of that year was imprisoned in this small courtyard. The well in the Yihe Xuan opposite the courtyard was the well where Zhenfei was drowned by Empress Dowager Cixi.

And Zhenfei was the most important woman besides Empress Dowager Cixi on the side of the Guangxu Emperor. But it was different from the pain that Empress Dowager Cixi brought to the Guangxu Emperor. Princess Zhen seemed to be the only person around the Guangxu Emperor who could bring him joy. The Guangxu Emperor had always been a puppet in the hands of Empress Dowager Cixi and was not related to Cixi by blood.
Guangxu three years (1887), in order to better control the Guangxu Emperor. Empress Dowager Cixi married her niece Yehenara Jingfen to the Guangxu Emperor as empress, later Empress Longyu. At the same time, those who were included in the harem also had two sisters, Concubine Zhen and Concubine Zhen.
At that time, Guangxu was very dissatisfied with Cixi's control over himself, and naturally did not have any good feelings for Empress Longyu. Among the two sisters, Concubine Jin and Concubine Zhen, the Guangxu Emperor preferred the lively and beautiful Zhenfei who had received a new education. When Princess Zhen first entered the palace, they really spent a period of love.
However, Empress Dowager Cixi did not like Concubine Zhen very much throughout, and there were three reasons for this. The first is that Zhenfei's daily life was too extravagant, because the Guangxu Emperor never retained his favor for Zhenfei. So much so that Zhenfei was piled up with countless treasures and treasures. Princess Zhen did not restrain herself, and the Guangxu Emperor rewarded her, and she used it.
The second is about Empress Longyu. After all, Empress Longyu was the niece of Empress Dowager Cixi, but the Guangxu Emperor did not have any good looks for her for this reason. However, Princess Zhen was able to accompany the holy car all the time, so Empress Longyu often found Empress Dowager Cixi to cry. After listening to it too much, Empress Dowager Cixi naturally did not look at Concubine Shangzhen much.
And the most important of them is also the one that Cixi hates the most. It was Zhenfei who intervened in the political struggle, and she participated in the Guangxu Emperor's leadership of the Penghu Reform Law, and developed a lot of restoration talents for the Guangxu Emperor. In 1898, the Restoration failed. The Guangxu Emperor was imprisoned by Empress Dowager Cixi on Yingtai, and Princess Zhen was naturally implicated.
According to the "Forbidden City Overview", after the Guangxu Emperor was imprisoned. Princess Jane was stripped of her clothes in public and played on the board in public. It is called the "Cloaked Staff". After that, he was imprisoned in the three houses for three years, and the entire north three were sealed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Princess Zhen has been alone since she entered, and all the food and use is handed in by the palace people from a small window. For the meals of the lower and lower people in the palace, the toilet is also delivered twice a day, and then handed out from the window where the meal is delivered. No one dared to talk to Zhenfei, and this environment could simply drive her crazy.
But even such a day did not last long, in 1900, the guns of the Eight-Power Alliance all the way into the capital. Empress Dowager Cixi had to leave the capital in a hurry, and before leaving the capital. Empress Dowager Cixi did not even forget Zhenfei, and personally went to the place where Zhenfei was imprisoned, and ordered the eunuch Cui Yugui to throw her into the well. The reason was not to let Princess Zhen suffer insults from foreigners.
After Zhenfei's death, the legend of this well began to grow more and more. It is often said that the ghost of Zhenfei is in this well, and there is always a song here at night, because the unjustly deceased Zhenfei came out to cry and complain about her misfortune. Later, this well was called "Zhenfei Well", and when people went to the Forbidden City, they always wanted to come to this well to have a look.
But above this well, it has been loaded with wellhead stones. It is similar to the ground lock, which is also worn with an iron rod and forbidden to be used by people. So now the wellhead looks very small, as if it can't even plug its head. And this wellhead stone is not built later by the personnel of the Forbidden City, which belongs to the cultural relics of the Qing Dynasty. As for when it was built, there is no detailed record, and it is still unclear.
