Recently, China Information and Communication Technology Group, together with Pengcheng Laboratory and National Information Optoelectronics Innovation Center, took the lead in completing the joint development and functional verification of 1.6Tb/s silicon-based optical transceiver chips in China, and realized the first leap from China's silicon optical chip technology to tb/s level.

Silicon optical chip is an optical chip using silicon photonic technology, which is manufactured by silicon optical materials and devices through a characteristic process. "Compared with traditional optical chips, silicon optical chips have the characteristics of high integration, low cost and good transmission performance." Dr. Xiao Xi, the technical leader of the project, introduced that after nearly two years of successful development of this product, the overall data capacity of the optical communication chip has increased by 4 times.

At present, the international 400G optical transceiver has entered the commercial deployment stage, the development of 800G optical transceiver prototype and technical standards are advancing, and the 1.6Tb/s optical transceiver will become the next hot spot for global competition.

During the research and development process, the technical team led by Dr. Xiao Xi broke through multiple technical bottlenecks. "The maximum single-channel rate of existing commercial chips in the world is 100Gb/s, and we have successfully verified the feasibility of 200Gb/s single-channel rate for the first time." Xiao Xi introduced that not only the speed was increased by 1 times, but the integration scale was increased by using the design scheme with independent intellectual property rights, and 8 channels of integration were realized on a single chip, and finally the verification of optical interconnection technology with a single chip capacity of up to 8×200Gb/s was completed.

Schosh said that this work shows the outstanding advantages of ultra-high speed, ultra-high density and high scalability of silicon optical technology, and successfully verifies the feasibility of 1.6Tb/s silicon optical module. It provides a reliable optical chip solution for broadband interconnection in next-generation data centers, and will provide strong support for the development of new technologies and new industries such as supercomputing and artificial intelligence.

"The high-capacity transmission of 1.6Tb/s can be simply understood as meeting the needs of 200 Gigabit broadband users to transmit data at the same time." Industry experts believe that this achievement has enhanced the R&D and innovation status of China Xinke in this field.

Peng Wei, deputy director of the Wuhan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. Cold Rolling Mill, said that the previous production capacity was 200,000 tons per year, and this year's target is 800,000 tons, sprinting 1 million tons.
