Many, many years ago, when the day and the earth were not separated, the scene of the universe was just a dark and chaotic clump, like a big egg.

Pangu, the ancestor of mankind, this incredibly large giant, was conceived in this dark and chaotic egg. He conceived in a big egg, grew, and fell asleep whimpering for eighteen thousand years.

One day, he suddenly woke up. When I opened my eyes, I couldn't see anything, all I saw was a dark and blurry patch, which made people feel strangely flustered.

He found this situation very annoying. Angry in his heart, he didn't know where to grab a large axe, and swung it hard towards the dark chaos in front of him, only to hear a landslide cracking sound - the big egg suddenly cracked. Some of them are light and clear, rising and becoming heaven; others are heavy and turbid, sinking and falling, and becoming the earth.

There were still some places in the heavens and the earth that were constantly sticking, and Pangu went to find a chisel, chiseling in his left hand, and holding an axe in his right hand, or cutting it with a plate axe, or chiseling with a chisel. Pangu worked so majestically and majestically there with an axe and a chisel, and soon completely divided heaven and earth.

After the heavens and the earth were separated, Pangu was afraid that they would still be closed, so he put his head on the sky, stepped on the ground, and stood in the middle of the heavens and the earth, changing with their changes.

The sky rises one zhang a day, the earth thickens one zhang a day, and Pangu's body also grows by one zhang a day. Eighteen thousand years passed, the heavens rose extremely high, the earth became extremely thick, and Pangu's body grew extremely long.

How long is Pangu's body? Some people have calculated that it is as long as 90,000 miles. This majestic giant, like a long pillar, stood straight up in the midst of heaven and earth, not giving them a chance to return to the darkness and chaos.

He stood there alone, doing this hard work every day. I don't know how many years have passed, the structure of heaven and earth seems to have been quite consolidated, he no longer has to worry about them meeting together, he really needs to rest and rest, and finally, like us humans, he has fallen down and died.

When he was dying, there was a sudden great change in his body: the breath exhaled from his mouth became wind and clouds, his voice became a rumbling thunder, his left eye became the sun, his right eye became the moon, his hands, feet and bodies became the four poles and five famous mountains of the earth, his blood became rivers, his veins became roads, his muscles became fields, his hair and beard became stars in the sky, his skin and sweat became flowers and trees, his teeth, bones, bone marrow, etc. They all turned into shining metal, hard stones, round pearls, and warm jade, and even the sweat of the most useless body became rain dew and ganlin. In short, Pangu, the ancestor of mankind, used his entire body to make this newly born world rich and beautiful.

This myth has much in common with ancient texts. For example, according to the Qing Dynasty Ma Hua's "History of Xuan", volume I quoted Xu Zhen's "Five Fortune Calendars" of the Three Kingdoms period: "The first birth of Pangu, the dying incarnation. Qi is a storm, the sound is thunder, the left eye is the sun, the right eye is the moon, the limbs and five bodies are the four poles and five mountains, the blood is the river, the tendons are the ground, the muscles are the soil, the hair is the stars, the fur is grass and trees, the tooth bones are golden stones, the essence is pearl jade, and the sweat is rain. Pangu opened up the world (Heilongjiang Tonghe County, Han)

Once upon a time, the heavens and the earth were not separated, and the whole world was in chaos, as if it were a very large egg. I don't know when, this "egg" gave birth to a great god, named Pangu.

Pangu was conceived for a long, long time. He had been sleeping quietly in the "egg" and had not woken up until eighteen thousand years.

Pangu opened his eyes and looked at it, saw that the surrounding area was pitch black, felt that his heart was uncomfortable, and jumped up, his right hand was extended, and a golden shining axe appeared in his hand. He held the plate axe in his hand, lifted the divine power, and pulled the plate axe around, only to hear a loud noise of "karala", and the "egg" was cracked, and there were several places connected together. Pangu stretched out his left hand, and a golden chisel appeared in his hand. He held a gold chisel in his left hand and a golden axe in his right hand, chiseling those places that were connected together, making a loud "Dangdang" sound. I don't know how long it took, but with the sound of "rumbling", the "eggs" were completely separated. Those things that were clear and light began to rise and become heaven; those things that were cloudy and heavy began to fall and became the earth.

Pangu watched the changes in front of him in amazement, worried that the heavens would fall, the heavens and the earth would reunite, and the world would return to darkness, so he held the sky with his head, and his two feet stomped on the earth, and his whole body was like a pillar, supporting the heavens and the earth. The sky rises one zhang a day, the earth thickens one zhang a day, and Pangu's body grows one zhang a day. After another eighteen thousand years, the distance between heaven and earth became ninety thousand miles, and Pangu's height became ninety thousand miles.

Pangu stood for a long time, the heavens and the earth were strong, and he would never close again, and he was also very tired. He wanted to lie down and rest for a while! But looking at the bare sky and the bare earth, feeling that there is a lack of beauty, he painstakingly thought of a way: how can we make the sky and the earth more beautiful? One day, he finally had an idea, so he lay down. Before he died, he released all the remaining divine powers in his body. His whole body dissolved: his gaze turned into lightning; his last exhaled breath became a source of wind, and the last roar he uttered became thunder; his eyes flew into the sky, his left eye became the sun, and his right eye became the moon; his hands and feet became five famous mountains; his blood became rivers, lakes, and seas; his veins became roads; his muscles became fertile fields; his hair and beard became trees; his skin and hair became treasures; and even the most useless sweat became rain dew.

Pangu died, dying and dedicating everything to the world we have today.

The myth of Pangu's pioneering earth is also spread in the lower reaches of the Songhua River and other places. Han Cheng, a seventy-year-old rural woman in Youyi County, told that Shi Juyang cailu said that after Pangu used a large axe to divide the heavens and the earth, he threw the axe into the air and transformed himself into green smoke and ascended to heaven. The Jade Emperor turned his axe into a constellation and designated his figure as a celestial constellation, forming the Seven Stars of the Big Dipper. The Big Dipper seven stars are also called "axe stars" in the folk. Some people call Pangu the "Mother of Heaven and Earth".
