After the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese Sino-Japanese War in 1894, the Qing Dynasty Beiyang Fleet was completely destroyed in the waters of the Yellow Sea, and the Qing Dynasty was defeated, paying Japan a huge amount of war reparations, and ceding the island of Taiwan to Japan, and since then Taiwan has begun a history of colonization for nearly 50 years.
<< the signing of the Treaty of Maguan >>, the Japanese government began to take over Taiwan and sent troops to the island. The earliest owners of Taiwan Island were various mountain tribes mainly concentrated in the Central Mountains, Yushan Mountains, Ali Mountains, and Snow Mountain Ranges in Taiwan, collectively known as the Mountain Tribes. These mountain peoples are roughly divided into more than a dozen different ethnic groups, mainly including Amei, Taiya, Sidek, Paiwan, Bunun, Beinan, Lukai, Cao, Yamei, Saixia and other tribes, with a population of about 400,000 in the late Qing Dynasty.
In the early days of passing through Taiwan, Japan set its sights on the Central Mountain Range in the center of Taiwan, because there were rich primeval forests and a large number of mineral resources, which were important strategic reserve resources on the road to the rise of Japanese militarism, and the development of The Central Mountain Range in Taiwan became their important plan. However, the Taiya people, The Saidek people, and the Gan zhuowan people (Bunun people) who live in the Central Mountains are very fierce, and the Japanese call them Shengbo, these mountain tribes have not had much contact with the outside world for a long time, and they are not soft on the foreigners who dare to break into the tribe without authorization, because their national customs are Shangwu, and minors can only be recognized by all the luo people by going out of grass (hunting human heads). By hunting the heads of foreign tribes through grass hunting, they can show their ancestors that they have the spirit of courage to guard the hunting ground and guard the tribe, men can only accept the totem (tattooed face) given by the tribal elders only if they have grass, only the men of the totem of the tribe are real people, and men without totems cannot even marry their daughters-in-law in the tribe. Therefore, the central mountains of Taiwan are inhabited by such a strong group of indigenous people, which is doomed to have a bloody contest between the indigenous people and the Japanese here.
In Taiwan, the Saidek ethnic group has three branches, the largest is the Dekdaya Saidek ethnic group, the most powerful fighting force, mainly concentrated in the Taiwan Wushe Mountain Area (now Nantou County, Taiwan, Ren'ai Township because of the perennial fog so called the Wushe), the Wushe area roughly distributed in the Decdaya Saidk ethnic group of twelve branches (East Coast, Xibao, Baran, Duknan, Rodov, Tarot Bay, Hogo, Mahipo, Sigu, Boalen, Bukansan), known as the Twelve Branches of the Wushe Alliance. In 1903, the Japanese organized a jungle expedition with a large number of surveying and mapping tools, preparing to go deep into the core area of The Central Mountain Range in Taiwan to investigate, and to lay a railway to develop the Central Mountain Range area. This expedition team entered the territory of the Dekdaya Saidek ethnic group in the area of The Kirishe (in the area of present-day Renai Township, Nantou County, Taiwan), and the Saidek quickly hunted down all the foreigners who had invaded the territory privately, and the Japanese authorities in Taiwan were very angry when they heard the news, and immediately mobilized troops to besiege the Wushe Shengbo.
When it was discovered that there were foreign armies about to invade the tribe, the Twelve Tribes soon formed an alliance, and the Japanese were killed and disarmed at the Renwu Society, and the Japanese suffered heavy losses, and the Sideks won a great victory in the first confrontation with the Japanese.
After the Japanese first fought with the Kirisho Ikuho, they realized that this was a difficult person, they could not face them head-on, they had to use wisdom, (1) the first step was to blockade the economy of the Kirishe area, in the past, the Kirishe Han people bartered for things, in the Kirishe Mountains, the Han people had a fixed mountain goods collection place, the Saidek, Doze people and other ethnic groups took their hunted wild goods, furs and other mountain goods to the Kirisha Market in exchange for some daily necessities such as salt, matches, pottery, spices and other daily necessities needed for their lives. All the tribes also abide by the rules and treat the Han people well, and are not allowed to grass the Han people. The Japanese drove out the Han Chinese and began a garrison at Kirisho. (2) Taking advantage of the mutual contradictions and hatred between the tribes, began to cultivate puppet army forces, engage in the strategy of dividing and ruling, and co-opted the Ganzhuo wan, the mona rudao of the early Wushe Mahepo Society hunted and killed many Ganzhuo wan people, so the Ganzhuowan people hated Monarudao to the bone, so the Japanese provoked the Ganzhuowan people to pretend to be like the Dekdaya Saidek ethnic group to show goodwill, tricking them into trading with the Ganzhuo wanren, and the Ganzhuowan people held a party when trading with the Wushe Saidek ethnic group, and many people of the various ethnic groups of the Wuzhuo Society were drunk. So in the night, the Ganzhuowan people took the opportunity to attack the Sidek group, the Kirisame Saidek ethnic group suffered heavy casualties, yuanqi was seriously injured, and then the Japanese under the leadership of the Ganzhuowan, Dozawa and other puppet troops familiar with the terrain of the Kirisame Society, divided their troops and attacked the branches of the Kirisame, and soon the twelve tribes of the Twelve Alliances were occupied by the Japanese, and the twelve tribes of the Kirisame Alliance lost a very bad defeat with the Japanese in the second confrontation, and this time the entire tribes in the Kirisho area were conquered by the Japanese, and the various clans were very unwilling to submit to the Japanese.
The Japanese soon also colonized the various communities in the Chuo Mountains, establishing police stations in each society, and each society sent a number of policemen to supervise and manage the daily life of these people, develop mountain forest farms, mineral resources, and other resources, build markets in Kirishe, and build relatively modern facilities such as schools, hospitals, post offices, hostels, shops, and timber processing factories. The Japanese did not allow the cruel customs of the Kirisame to continue, abolished their habit of making grass, and no longer allowed totems on their faces, forcing the children of the tribe to begin Japanese education, the young men of the tribe were forced to go deep into the mountains to cut wood, and some precious wood in the mountains was carried out of the mountains by hand, sent to the timber factory set up by the Japanese for processing, and only a small amount of wages was given every day, and the women were forced to work as slave maids in the Japanese homes.
Mona Rudao's generation had a fierce confrontation with the Japanese earlier, but also learned the strength of the Japanese, for the continuation of the blood line of the ethnic group, the former leaders of the Twelve Ministries chose to silently endure the japanese high-pressure rule, endured humiliation and burden to watch the men and women in the ethnic group live miserably. Until the outbreak of the "Wushe Incident" on October 27, 1930, the Mahpo Society could not bear to start contacting the twelve-part society blood sacrifice ancestral spirits, and began another round of fierce anti-Japanese struggle. The real Sideks are about to be assimilated. So Mona Rudao's decades-long hatred of the Japanese was about to explode.
Mona Rudao planned to contact the Twelve Tribes Blood Sacrifice Ancestral Spirit on October 27, 1930, to make a "big grass" to the Japanese and drive the Japanese out of their homeland. On the 27th, it happens to be the Kirisha District School Games, when all the Japanese police and their families will gather in the Kirisha, because the prefectural government has sent higher-level officials to participate in the celebration of the Games, so the police in the Kirisha area may relax their vigilance. Mona Rudao knew that the capture of the Kirisame was only the beginning, and the next battle he would face was a cruel battle, and he also knew in his heart that this was a battle that could not be won at all, and then he only had to lead his people to choose the way of death. A small tribe leading a rebellion will eventually lead only the entire clan to perish, and he will lead the tribe to pick up the forgotten totem and prove who is the real master and hero of this land with the spirit of fighting to the death.
In order to encircle and suppress the Sidek Alliance in Mona Rudao, the Japanese mobilized nearly 3,000 military police, and recruited former fierce puppet army thugs such as the Dozawa people and the Ganzhuowan people to assist the Japanese in attacking the rebellious tribes together.

After many days of fighting, the Sideks were running out of ammunition, and the next thing that awaited them was the way to choose death, because each of them had proved their bravery to the ancestral spirits they worshipped, and they were already qualified to enter their ancestral soul homes through the Rainbow Bridge, and whether to continue to fight to the death, or to surrender and die in humiliation, it was time to make a choice. Mona Rudao did not want to be caught by the Japanese and humiliated to death, chose to commit suicide in a secret cave, his son led the remaining dozens of people to continue to fight with the Japanese to the death, even children know to hold the Japanese to jump off the cliff and commit suicide, this scene also deeply shocked the Japanese, perhaps the Japanese were moved by this fearless fighting spirit, sent a lot of people, with the plane to scatter a lot of leaflets to persuade the remaining people to surrender. Eventually, Mona Rudo's eldest son, Dadomona, persuaded his pregnant sister (the Japanese do not kill pregnant women) that these remnants should be strong and alive to preserve the blood of the tribe, and he fought with the remaining few until the last moment, until he committed suicide in the jungle without bullets.
It was also this film that made me see that there is such a group of bloody people in our big family of the Chinese nation who have fought so tenaciously for freedom and dignity, either dying in battle or committing suicide. After losing the ancestral spirit worship and totem belief, the Sideks chose to fight to death to get the qualification to cross the Rainbow Bridge, and they believe that after they enter the ancestral spirit heavenly homeland they will get eternal happiness! This fighting spirit that ignited the pride of a nation will always be admired by future generations.
