Rovio Entertainment, the developer of Angry Birds, was recently indicted by Hector Balderas, attorney general of the New Mexico State Attorney General's Office. The company is accused of collecting and selling personal data from children under the age of 13 in violation of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

COPPA requires companies to obtain permission from their guardians before collecting any personal information from children under the age of 13; in all-age products, they must take measures to ensure that data on users under the age of 13 is not collected.

Jurists say Balderas accused Rovio of aggressively pushing in-game and out-of-game merchandise to children. Their personal information is also being leaked for commercial exploitation and money from children.

Balderas is convinced that this angry birds' abuses are a potential hidden danger to children and families in the state of Mexico, and hopes to give them the punishment they deserve.
