Humble Bundle launches new game subscriptions

IT House reported on Jan. 15 that Mac players may be familiar with Humble, a game service that bundles games you've actually heard of and sells at a good price, according to 9to5 Mac. Starting next month, however, Humble will part ways with Mac.

The core concept of humble Bundle is that game developers — and, more recently, authors and software developers — contribute their work to "pay-as-you-go" bundled projects to help charities. When you buy a bundled game, you can set the price you are willing to pay and choose how much of the purchase price goes to a given charity or game developer.

The idea is novel and a great way to buy Mac games. However, as Ars Technica reports, Humble's support for macs didn't last long. The company is shifting its business model from the way it has always worked to a subscription service.

Frankly, this could be a very clever and positive move for Humble. Nowadays, game subscription services are welcomed and anticipated. Even Apple has an Arcade subscription service for $4.99/month for ad-free games.

However, Humble monthly subscriptions are not bold and advanced, nor will they support Mac. Starting February 1, 2022, Humble will need a new client to support the newly launched subscription service management games. It can only run on Windows.

According to developer Steve Troughton-Smith, "The degradation of the Mac gaming ecosystem feels sad. Apple has destroyed a lot by cutting off 32-bit support, scrapping OpenGL, and enforcing notarization. Not to mention * years of low-level GPU performance. Relying on iOS games won't do much to slow down the recession. ”

A PC game subscription service must put support for Windows on top of Mac and Linux, even if it means saying goodbye to loyal customers. For Windows users, the new Humble Bundle includes access to 10 PC games per month for $12/month. Unlike Apple's Arcade game service, Humble Bundle users have games for life when they subscribe, even if you cancel your plan.
