At the beginning of The succession of Emperor Taizong of Tang and Li Shimin, he repeatedly expressed his contempt for the "search for immortals" behavior of Qin Shi Huang and Emperor Wu of Han. In December of the first year of Zhenguan (627 AD), Li Shimin mentioned to his attendants: "The immortals are vain and vain, and they have their names. From this, we can see that Li Shimin in the early days did not believe in immortality. Li Shimin also said in the edict: "The great virtue of the heavens and the earth is the great virtue of the husband who is born, and the inertia of the living is the constant of the short." Born in the shape of seven feet, life is limited to 100 years old. "Although the power of returning to heaven and the sun, and exhausting the wisdom of God, there will be an end to life, and it will not be avoided."
Later, Li Shimin's health became weaker and weaker, and coupled with his son's indisputable anger, Li Chengqian was deposed as the crown prince, which was a big blow to Li Shimin. Under all kinds of pressure, Li Shimin even moved the idea of taking his own life. Wise as Li Shimin, he was finally deceived, listened to the words of the alchemist, and began to look for the elixir of immortality.
Wang Xuance, while on his mission to Tianzhu, was persecuted by the local king Aroshuna, and most of the members of the mission were killed. After Wang Xuance escaped, he used the Tang Dynasty's seal letter to recruit thousands of Tubo and Nepalese cavalry, swept through the Northern Tianzhu states, and captured Aroshuna and other war criminals. After returning to Chang'an, Wang Xuance offered Li Shimin a prisoner. However, Li Shimin did not seem to have much interest in the enemy leader, but he was interested in another Tianzhu captive, and he was the Fan Monk, Na Luo Shu Bao.
He would refine some elixirs that could make people immortal, but this did not intend to cater to the psychology of Tang Taizong, who saw that the elixirs of chinese Taoists had no effect, so he was lucky to think that his health care products might be effective. At that time, Li Shimin, who was in a hurry to go to the hospital, or who was cornered, had no choice, and his judgment had also declined, and naturally listening to the wind was the wind, and listening to the rain was the rain. Li Shimin never expected that the elixir had become a life-saving medicine, and as soon as he took the elixir, his body felt unwell, and the condition not only did not heal, but became more serious. Within two months, Li Shimin died of a "violent illness" at the age of 52.
The history books record his death very vaguely, one is that he died of dysentery, and the other is that he died by taking the so-called "longevity medicine" of the monks and alchemists, and the other is that he died of injury. According to a large number of sources, later generations believe that it is more likely to die because of taking these drugs.
The reason why modern old people will be deceived is that it is not difficult to find that they actually have the same psychology as Li Shimin.
