The second is that there is a big problem with the believers these missionaries accept. Although our people are not very much influenced by religion like Europe, they still have their own beliefs. Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, etc. are all engraved in the hearts of the people. So when these missionaries first came, no one believed them. However, some people believe in these people, mainly the hooligans. Because these people found the power of the missionaries to be very powerful, very powerful. The government did not care to provoke them, so these people ostensibly believed in Christianity and secretly oppressed the people. Since they were Christians, the government did not dare to provoke them. So for a while, many people were very disgusted with these believers.
The last point is arguably the most important. The vast majority of missionaries are ostensibly missionaries, secretly doing a lot of things that hurt nature and reason. Through the protection of foreign countries, they oppress the people and make the people dare not speak out. And many of these missionaries have spies in them, and they send a lot of information to their countries. These also made the people very disgusted.
It can be said that if these missionaries were only missionaries, the people of the Qing Dynasty would not be so disgusted with them. It's just that most missionaries do other things in the name of missionary work. These are important reasons why people oppose them.
