In July 1898, the British forcibly occupied Weihaiwei, built forts, garrisoned troops, and set up administrative offices to implement colonial rule here. Someone published an article online saying that the photos were the scene of Qing Officials delivering pennants to the headquarters of the Eight-Nation Alliance in Beijing.
Qing government officials presented plaques to the generals of the Eight-Nation Alliance and knelt in the mansion where they lived, and these photos bear witness to the humiliation of the late Qing Dynasty.
As soon as these Qing Dynasty officials dressed in official uniforms arrived, they performed three kneeling and nine prostrations in the main hall of the administrative office, and it is estimated that Lockhart was a little confused. The most solemn ritual performed by the subjects of the Qing Dynasty to the emperor was "three kneels and nine prostrations", kneeling on both knees three times and prostrating nine heads. And the English subjects had to kneel before the king without prostrating themselves. That kind of low eyebrows and obedient eyes, slave face and knees, it is really painful.
