2022 is the first year after the birth of modern Chinese archaeology, and it is a new starting point. In the new year, archaeology will be hotter and more attractive, archaeological talents will be more popular with society, more important archaeological discoveries will continue to pour into people's field of vision, more high-level research results will emerge, more cultural heritage will be effectively protected and rationally utilized, and the public's understanding of archaeology and cultural heritage will be newly improved.
In the new year, my scientific research tasks are mainly twofold: one is to do a good job in the excavation of the Nanzuo site, and the other is to continue to study the process of early Chinese civilization from a Eurasian perspective and the regional model of the origin of Chinese civilization.
The site of the Nanzuo Ring Trench Settlement in Qingyang, Gansu Province, covers an area of 6 million square meters, which is one of the largest central settlement sites in China about 5,000 years ago, and is the best witness of China's 5,000-year civilization. In the new year, we should strengthen the strength of the team, increase the intensity of multidisciplinary research, improve the level of field work, further reveal the layout structure of the central palace-like large rammed earth construction area of the site, further clarify the structural functions of the rammed earth "Jiutai" and its ring trenches, explore the western trench of the settlement and the overall structure of the settlement, and investigate and understand the situation of other related sites in the surrounding area. At the same time, we will step up the collation and study of archaeological data and make the archaeological results public as soon as possible.
Chinese civilization has a history of more than 8,000 years of origin and more than 5,000 years of formation history, has long been walking its own unique path and communicating with early Western civilization, accumulating many unique spiritual cores or cultural genes and having many commonalities with Western civilization, which must be seen clearly from the macroscopic Eurasian perspective through the comparison of early Chinese and Western civilizations. Chinese civilization is a super-large civilization, and in the origin and formation stages, there have been some unique civilization models, and finally they have stirred and merged into a multi-branch "tianxia civilization" with a main body and a center.
Archaeology is a discipline that most likes to trace the long past of mankind, and in my mind, it is also a discipline that pays the most attention to the long-term future of mankind. The farther you look at the ancient times, the deeper you think about the future. The historical facts of the continuous development of Chinese civilization for thousands of years revealed by archaeology are the historical basis for the Chinese nation to take its own road now and in the future. Archaeology gives us the deepest cultural confidence!
