First, the eight auxiliary ministers were killed
After the death of the Xianfeng Emperor, the Tongzhi Emperor was too young to be assisted by eight auxiliary ministers. Cixi and Prince Gong launched a coup d'état of Xin You, seized the real power of the eight auxiliary ministers, and listened to the government herself, in order to completely control the government and eliminate the root cause, Empress Dowager Cixi orchestrated various reasons to kill the eight auxiliary ministers.
Second, kill Princess Jane
Zhenfei was the most favored concubine of the Guangxu Emperor, not only young and beautiful, but also avant-garde in thought, and was deeply loved by Guangxu. The Guangxu Emperor naturally snubbed Empress Longyu, who was Cixi's niece, and Cixi developed a dissatisfaction with Concubine Zhen. Princess Zhen was a person who dressed in a Westerner way and liked to take pictures, which made Cixi quite disgusted. Originally, Zhenfei was not liked by Cixi, but Zhenfei did not relent, which made the gap between them even more serious, when the Eight-Nation Alliance invaded Beijing, before Empress Dowager Cixi fled, she sent someone to push Zhenfei into the well and brutally kill her.
Third, imprison the Guangxu Emperor
After the death of the Tongzhi Emperor, Empress Dowager Cixi raised her nephew Ai Xinjueluo Zaixiang to the emperor's throne, and although he was emperor, he had no real power. The Guangxu Emperor supported the restoration of the law and made the Qing dynasty stronger, but this touched the interests of the diehards led by Cixi, and the vigorous change failed, and the Guangxu Emperor was also imprisoned by Cixi, so Cixi completely grasped the situation.
Fourth, kill Ci'an
Ci'an and Cixi were the two empresses of the Xianfeng Emperor, and Cixi was promoted because of Tongzhi's succession, but Cixi's various hegemony caused serious dissatisfaction with Ci'an, and during the reign of the Xianfeng Emperor, some people persuaded Cixi to kill him to avoid the trouble, but the Xianfeng Emperor considered that Tongzhi was still young and needed his mother's support, and Xianfeng could not bear it. After Xianfeng's death, Cixi became even more bold, and after deposing the eight auxiliary ministers, Cixi set her sights on Ci'an. Soon after, Empress Dowager Ci'an was secretly killed by Cixi.
Fifth, kill the Guangxu Emperor
In 1908, the Guangxu Emperor died quietly, and the next day Empress Dowager Cixi also died, and they died only one day apart, which made people wonder a lot. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, archaeologists extracted the Guangxu Emperor's hair test, and the results showed that the Guangxu Emperor died of arsenic poisoning. This cannot but make people suspect that Cixi did it, and who else but her would dare to attack an emperor.
