In Jinyuchi Middle Street, Dongcheng District, there is a century-old building hidden in the residential area, which is the former site of the well-known and long-established "Tongxinghe" wooden shop in Beijing. Recently, Jingcheng Group officially launched the protective repair project of the old site of Tongxinghe WoodWare Shop, and this weather-beaten building has finally regained its vitality.
Tongxing and woodware shop opened in the fifteenth year of Qing Daoguang, and was once famous in Beijing. In the 1920s, Tongxinghe entered its heyday and built a two-story Western-style building at no. 3 Middle Goldfish Pond Street as a sales façade. The Western-style building is a two-storey building with brick and wood structure, the overall proportion is appropriate, calm and exquisite, a variety of masonry techniques are applied, the details are exquisitely carved, and the stitches are rich, which is a rare architectural boutique that combines craftsmanship and aesthetics in the region. In the past hundred years, this building has witnessed the glory of the wood industry, experienced a period of public-private partnership, and once became a staff dormitory, the roof, wall and staircase have fallen into disrepair, not only the upper daughter wall is broken, the bricks on the lower wall surface of the west façade are damaged and alkaline, and the west side is due to the change of the wall style due to the chaotic construction of private construction.
Since July 2020, Jingcheng Group, as the unit responsible for the protection of historical buildings, has carried out housing appraisal, clearance and survey work before and after Building 3 in Goldfish Pond Central District, and initially restored the original style of the main structure of the building. Since then, after expert demonstration meetings and other special meetings, the "Tongxing and Wood Shop Repair Design Plan" has been preliminarily adopted.
On January 12th, at the launching ceremony of the restoration project of the old site of Tongxinghe WoodWare Shop, the exhibition area of old photos of commercial buildings in Chongwen District, the somatosensory area of VR technology building model, and the video exhibition of repair technology were specially set up, which can be used by the audience to intuitively feel the historical style of old Beijing and the exquisite repair technology of ancient buildings. The relevant person in charge of Jingcheng Group said that the repair design of the old site of Tongxinghe WoodWare Shop will adopt the principles of "protection first, rescue first, rational use, strengthening management", "true and complete", not changing the original appearance of historical buildings, minimal intervention, reversibility, etc., in the process of repair, fully explore the historical value of architectural heritage, so that this century-old building can regain its life.
