According to South Korea's KBS News, a driving recorder captured the crash of a South Korean F-5E fighter jet. The screen shows that after the fighter plane hit the mountain, a huge fireball was raised first, followed by billowing black smoke.

At about 13:44 on January 11, a South Korean Air Force F-5E fighter jet crashed during takeoff from Suwon Base in Gyeonggi Province. There was a male pilot in his 30s on the fighter jet at the time of the incident. It is understood that he was catapulted to escape at the time, but his remains were later found near the wreckage of the plane.

The fighter crashed on a barren mountain directly south of Hwaseong,Gyeonggi Province, and sparked a wildfire, but fortunately did not cause any casualties. After receiving the relevant report, the South Korean fire department urgently sent two fire helicopters, 18 fire trucks and 40 firefighters to the scene to rescue them. The South Korean Air Force said the fighter was not loaded with ammunition and the cause of the accident was under investigation.

The F-5E fighter is a model imported by South Korea from the United States in 1975 and later assembled in South Korea before being discontinued in 1987. Since 2000, 12 fighters of this type have crashed in South Korea.
