Changchun, January 12 (Xinhua) -- Curling is sliding on the track, and from time to time there is applause, praise from players or encouragement from teammates. On the 12th, more than 80 disabled athletes from all over Jilin Province showed their skills in the dryland curling field.

On the same day, the launching ceremony of the 6th Disabled Ice and Snow Sports Season and the Jilin Provincial Branch of the Disabled Dryland Curling City Challenge were held in Changchun. On the field, the disabled athletes enjoyed the passion and fun brought by the competition and became the absolute protagonists.

The event was hosted by the China Disabled Persons' Federation and co-hosted by the Jilin Disabled Persons' Federation and the Changchun Disabled Persons' Federation.

Dryland curling is a popular version of the Winter Olympic curling project, which is a competition that combines collective strength and intelligence through teamwork, with the characteristics of small footprint, easy to learn, suitable for all ages, and not affected by regional and environmental influences, and can participate in all categories of disabled people.

Liu Jianhui is the captain of the disabled dryland curling team in Erdao District, Changchun City, and he has continued to tap his potential from athletics and skiing to curling. "Athletics and cross-country skiing require physical strength and endurance, while curling requires skill."

From "physical work" to "technical work", Liu Jianhui began to pay attention to team building. "It's a team project that needs to coordinate and communicate with teammates, and everyone in the team has to play their part."

Since 2018, dryland curling has been used by the Disabled Persons' Federation at all levels in Jilin Province every year as the first choice for activities such as "Ice and Snow Sports Season for the Disabled" and "Fitness Week for the Disabled", and the number of people participating in this sport has been expanding, and the level of sports has also increased year by year.

In the three-day Jilin Provincial Branch of the Disabled Dryland Curling City Challenge, 16 representative teams from the Disabled Persons' Federation, the Disabled Sports Training Base and the Special Education School from all over Jilin Province will compete fiercely in the three categories of wheelchair, intelligence and hearing, and the winning teams of each group will be qualified for the national finals.

According to the reporter's understanding, during the current ice and snow sports season for the disabled, the disabled persons' federations at all levels in Jilin Province will also organize and carry out winter skiing, skating training classes, as well as fitness instructor training and other rich ice and snow fitness activities for the disabled, encouraging more disabled friends to go out of their homes and experience the joy of winter fitness and ice and snow sports.
