A vassal state of China
As Europe began to expand toward the sea, they heard that there was a country in the far east with more than twenty vassal states. They were full of vigilance against the country, but with the invasion of China by the Eight-Power Alliance, these powers discovered that the country had already been a foreign power, so they set off a wave of partitioning China. With the division of China by the great powers, China's original vassal states left one after another. But China's last vassal state was still paying tribute more than seventy years ago and claimed to support China forever.
The history of tribute in Kanjuti
This country is Kanjuti. Kanjuti's first tribute was in 1761, when the Manchus quelled the Great, Minor, and Zhuo rebellions, and the countries surrounding Kashmir came into contact with the great power of the East. So Kanjuti paid a tribute of one or two or five dollars of placer gold to the Manchu Qing, and formally established the relationship with the Manchu Qing.
For the next one or two hundred years, the feudal relationship between Kanjuti and the Manchus remained so strong that Britain and Russia extended their hands to West and Central Asia. With the rebellion of the Agubai puppet regime, which was backed by the British government, China's Xinjiang lost a large part of its territory. Fortunately, after Zuo Zongtang recovered Xinjiang, it was not lost. However, after this turmoil in Xinjiang, the British naturally extended their hands.
The geographical location of Kanjuti is very important, for the British, it is the main road for British India to extend its hand out of the Indian peninsula, and it is also the only way for the British to extend its hand from Central Asia and West Asia to the western part of China. Therefore, the British have been co-opting Kanjuti since they installed their power in Kanjuti, but Kanjuti has always claimed to be a courtier of the Qing Emperor and does not recognize other emperors.
Later, the British directly imposed military control over Kanjuti, but Kanjuti still paid tribute when it was time to pay tribute. As a European country, Britain is far from the Emperor of Heaven here, and the local British garrison is not good at turning another face with the local clan forces, so it can only turn a blind eye to Kanjuti's tribute.
This tributary relationship lasted until 1947. As the British Empire weakened, Britain could no longer maintain its rule over the Indian Peninsula and Central and Western Asia, so the British gradually withdrew their troops from here. By 1947, Khan Juti Chief Mohammed Jamal Khan announced that he had joined Pakistan as a native state. Before becoming part of Pakistan, Kanjuti paid one last symbolic tribute to China and said he would always support China.
Modern Kanjuti
This tribute was the last time China received tribute as a suzerainty, after which it developed into a prototype from the Shang Dynasty and was formally established during the Zhou Tianzi period, and the thousands of years-long tributary system came to an end. Since then, the whole of Asia has entered a new era, and China has also broken away from the identity and shackles of the Central Plains Dynasty and begun to look at the world.
What is now Kanjuti is the Hunza region of Pakistan, and as a former vassal state of China, the current Hunza is the bridge connecting The center of China and Pakistan. Like the Karakoram Highway connecting China and Pakistan, it passes under the palace of King Kanjuti in that year.
