"The Return of the Wilderness" is the eighth ecological literature work created by Zhang Hefan, which shows the 35-year ups and downs of the mainland wild horse protection cause. Jointly planned and published by China International Broadcasting Publishing House and Beijing Wild Horse Tribal Cultural Center, the works tell the experience of the survival, extinction and resurrection of endangered wild animals Przewalski's wild horses in China in delicate and vivid language.
Zhang Hefan introduced that the creation of "The Return of the Wilderness" is also to pay tribute to the experts, scholars, and staff who are committed to the protection of wild horses, and to pay more attention to the story of "people". The Przewalski's wild horse is a nationally protected animal and is on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. It is native to the Junggar Basin in Xinjiang, China, and western Mongolia. A hundred years ago, due to Western poaching, environmental changes and other factors, wild horses were once endangered in China. Since the reform and opening up, the Chinese government and several generations of wild horse conservation workers have made arduous efforts to promote the return of wild horses to nature and rebuild wild populations. By the end of 2020, the total number of wild horses on the mainland exceeded 700, accounting for nearly one-third of the total number of wild horses in the world. China's wild horse conservation experience has become an internationally recognized success model for saving endangered species and protecting biodiversity.
